Trolling motor battery setup questions

would you rather have two smaller batteries or one big battery for your trolling motor setup?
There are some fancy battery boxes out there with external hook ups, built in meters, 12v accessory ports, etc. they seem to run about $50 compared to about $10 for the basic models. They worth the upgrade?
We will keep the boat in our uncovered slip with a cover on it. There is power at the dock so I'll keep it on a charger in the boat so I won't be shuttling the batteries back and forth if that's makes a big difference.

Two batteries wired parallel will give you the longest runtime with no switching.
