I searched and didn't find anything to answer my question.

I need to replace my trolling motor battery. I have an 18' aluminum Lowe bass boat so the trolling motor battery takes a beating. My current battery is 3 yrs old; batteries in FL don't last long.

Who's had a lot of success with what type of battery?

Just replaced all 3 of my TM batteries with the group 31 deep cycles from academy and were currently onsale for $99. Talked to several people and was told for the money academy is hard to beat and come with 3 year warranty.

Top of the line are probably the sears platniums but there gonna run you 250+. if you're running a 12volt and only need one wouldnt be bad, I just couldnt justify dropping $800 on mine.

ETA: also heard good things about interstate brand, didnt price them out though.

Everstart Max from Walmart. Employees there so dumb u can trade it in after 3 years and tell em it's still under warranty. They don't even check to see how old it is. Been doing this for years

I have had good results from...

Big Mama's = Good
Bully Dogs = Fair to good

But I've been using Energizer brand from SAMS for the last few years. When I serviced the water this spring I noticed the stickers said they were manufactured in 2011. That's a pretty good run...

I think I'll be buying Energizer again in the future.

The key is using them, recharging them regularly, and servicing the water with purified non tap water.

I use these on my little boat and have had great results.

Big boats have optimas and i'm not really convinced they're any better.

Like others said, using them and recharging right after is the key

After reading some of the recommendations, I have determined that the best bang for the buck is the Everstart Maxx 27 DC (deep cycle), 750 CCA at Wal-Mart for about $82 (I don't know what the core charge is).

Now 'my' best bang for the buck may not be the same for everyone; here in FL 3 yrs is about all you get out of a battery (marine or vehicle).

Disclaimer: results may vary.

Wally world marine batteries work fine. You do know that the secret to battery life is charging them after use and keeping them at near full charge when not in use. Think about an on board or automatic charging system.

I have interstate right now, thinking of getting these next, they are 20 lbs lighter per battery than my current ones(60lbs)

sold at academy for $100

Different stores are selling the same brands with different labels slapped on them. There are only 4 or so battery manufacturers: Exide, Johnson Controls, East Penn/Deka, and Interstate. If you want the absolute best for deep cycling, shop gel cells - they aren't cheap though. Otherwise, shop the warranties at different retail outlets and go with the best.

Not sure lighter is necessarily better.

Here's some good info.

For deep cycle applications, it's not. Heavier either means gel cell or, in SLI's, thicker lead plates = better for deep cycling.
