Went trawling in the back of Dulac for the first time in years this weekend.
Had a blast doing it with my Pops and brother. We didn't even see another boat the entire morning either.
Plus we filled a 48qt ice-chest about 3/4 up with shrimp (sorry no pics)

Anybody else been trawling yet since the season opened? My dad was telling us how a lot more people used to do it back in the day compared to now.

I normally do and maintain a license every year. Only have a 16 ft trawl but haven't used it since i sold my small boat and am not putting that thing anywhere near my offshore rig

father in law went this weekend and pulled a couple drags but didn't do very well. More by catch than shrimp.

Any size to them? I talked to a friend that hit Vermilion Bay this weekend and caught 400lbs of 60 count. Too small for my liking.

Most were on the smaller size, but we were pretty picky about what we kept. Majority of the ones we kept were just big enough to boil/make a gumbo with.

Side note: Porpoise everywhere and followed within feet of nets the entire day. (Didn't do any damage, I just don't like them)

Makes me think of the marriage between the worst of swamp pop and country music.

This is how we trawl, this is how we skim, put the the nets down and fill them to the brim...

My grandpa used to do it a lot. Had a camp on the water, but I don't even think he really fished. Just liked to trawl. Used to go as a kid.

About two years ago, we took a party barge on a drinking/fishing excursion and put a test trawl in for shits and giggles. Ended up doing pretty well. In my opinion, the party barge was almost a perfect vessel. Hang out drinking under the canopy with tons of room. Sit on the comfy chairs while picking through the catch. I enjoyed myself and would definitely do it a few times a year if I still lived close.

Think i'm going to start going more often. Wasn't the most fun thing ever, but it sure was an enjoyable way to pass the morning with the family.

Lost my phone over the side of a boat once before. It stays in the glove compartment for the whole trip now
