Tractor advice needed

Might be moving to a 70 acre spread in MS and will be needing a tractor. Never bought or owned one before. I know i want 4wd and a front end loader. Torn on what horsepower will be needed. I am thinking 40 hp range should get r done. Land is about 30 acres clear the rest wooded. Leaning Kubota at the moment and looking for experiences with brand and size
Also will be making a few food plots with it and thinking rotary tiller over discs.

Get with SubMOA on here, he'll do you right.

Get the most hp you can reasonably afford. I've never heard of anyone saying they wished they had gotten a smaller tractor, especially if it's the only one you have. I'm partial to Kubota but the green ones work too. I would personally avoid the gray market Korean ones.

Definitely a possibility. I made an offer then a counter that they rejected. Now the owners are coming back to the table and wanting to negotiate again.

Found private schools for the kids that are actually cheaper than what we pay in Houma. Wife looking into jobs.

Try to get a 50 if you can
Preferably green if you can swing it. But Orange is good in that hp range

What tractor?

4wd JD990 will do everything you need. Tough as boot leather and can be had on the market for 8-15K and as a plus you don't have to deal with Tier IV emissions crap. Just a great old tractor.
This one is a little more than that but should be real nice very low hours

This one looks great but may need repair

I did the same thing you are doing a few years ago.We went from a subdivision in BR to 90 acres north of Liberty. I researched every tractor out there and ended up with a Kubota MX5100dt . I have enjoyed it from day one and it's used regularly. You can't go wrong with any of them nowadays. Just make sure you have a good dealer with a good service department.

You should look into the E series tractors from John Deere. You can lease one and figure out if it is right for you. We just leased a 5065e which is a 65hp. The lease runs $1500 for a year.

You should keep in mind that the dealership in Poplarville sells Kubotas.
It's nice having service close by.

Didn't they run that program last year?

I'll take a mahindra over a Kubota and a john Deere any day of the week.
If you aren't opposed to used, an older ford or international can be a really good buy.
I will add, a 40 year old 50 hp AG tractor is 10x the tractor that a current 50hp tractor is.
The amount of spinning weight means much more useable torque. My old 38 hp international will run a 10ft bushhog in anything but Bahia. The newer John Deere I had wouldn't run it in clover... After 10 or more trips into the dealer to fix the front end loader, we parted ways.
I have a small mahindra now that has been bulletproof.

Whatever you do, factor in the dealership. You don't want a bunch of illiterate fricktards working on your shite or something that you have to drive 75 miles to get parts for.
For the record, those 50 series John Deere's like the one pictured above are great little tractors.
