You should keep in mind that the dealership in Poplarville sells Kubotas.

I did look on Parish Tractor's website and they have a shite ton of kubota inventory. Have some nice package deals too. Looks like they offer a 40 hp tractor with bush hog, box blade and front end loader on a tandem axle trailer for around $28k

At very least a 50hp. It's a safe bet to get more tractor than you think you need. I have 54 acres and I bought a JD 5065E 65hp. I don't think you could go wrong with JD, Kubota, New Holland, or Mahindra

I know they are alot more expensive. But I have seen a 5' cutter on a skid steer cut grass faster than a 10' bush hog.

Its like a zero turn vs a lawn tractor. The speed is so much faster.

I know someone makes a roto tiller but speed would be the same there.

Again the skid is 3x the investment of the 50hp tractor.

Base tractor price doesn't seem to climb drastically with hp increase it is the damn attachments

The 70 acres is rolling hills which would be a change for this coonass as i would have to learn how to use a tractor on slopes. I think about 40 are wooded natural bottoms sloping down to a creek. The rest is open pasture that i may end up fencing or even getting planted with some hardwood to improve habitat. Place is loaded with deer and hog sign. Would need a UTV or ATV as well. Anyone want to swap a mud boat for an ATV/UTV?

I am selling both of my JD 6300s this summer and getting a single Kubota. I will never have MS Ag work on my equipment again. They are basically running a criminal enterprise as far as I am concerned.

We have 5 300+ hp tractors and a 250k sprayer... All bought from MS Ag. Where they really break it off in you is when you start dealing with the guidance systems.

Dude I know you are will be in MS, but these guys have always had some pretty good package deals too. It might be worth the drive if the price is right. Or maybe you can use their offer for negotiating. Just a thought.

full disclosure, I never did business with them. Just used them as a reference point.

Just make sure you compare apples to apples when shopping between brands. I sell JD in Franklinton for Sunshine, and I'd be happy to help you however I can.

I keep 3 old International tractors running and have used Star Equipment in Hammond for years for any maintenance needs I don't feel like doing myself. They are good people to me. They have a ton of inventory also.

Be very careful with used tractors. There were a ton of them with water damage during the recent floods.

would be interested in the list of things that you can do with your skidsteer that you can't do with your tractor.

grappling hooks...that pretty much is the start and end of this thread.

I have 40 acres of trees, so....not much bushogging, which a tractor will cut just fine, but imo, that's the end of it. I have had both, and while a bobcat is a slight more investment...my god the benefits are exponential

Congratulations on buying your place. I'm closing next Friday on 25 acres. Leaning towards JD 5065e. Good nearby dealer.

if you get a front end loader, be sure to get a 4wd tractor.

It would be different if you said a skidsteer had its place but to state that the skidsteer will do everything better is just nonsense. I have skid steers and tractors of all sizes. If you are trying to keep up 40 acres a tractor is just more practical and to state otherwise is just nonsense.
