I'm wanting to go on a 4 wheeler trail trip and take a camper. I have 2 four wheelers I'm wanting to take, and can only fit one in the truck bed. Is this a terrible idea to tow a 12' lightweight utility trailer behind the 14' camper? Mildly concerned about trailer sway at highway speed. I'll definitely not be pushing the speed by any stretch but even at 65-70 it can get sideways pretty quick. Is trailer sway only a concern when the trailers are improperly balanced or are there more factors that affect that?

I personally wouldn't do it....

But I've passed folks (quickly) on the interstate who I've seen doing it.

I know some states you can't bumper pull two trailers. You can have a gooseneck/5th wheel to a bumper but not two bumper pulls.

I've seen it done buy I wouldn't do it. Whenever we go camping along with either off-roading or camping, my wife has to drive one of my trucks and tow a trailer. She doesn't like it, but she gets over it.

I know a guy that pulled two GatorTail boats to either Portland ,Oregon or Seattle,Washington with his F-250.

Then the people he sold them to took him duck hunting in the Pacific Ocean. Out of 30’ BlackWatch.

He pulls two at a time all the time. Make sure you have good hitches and a good towing vehicle. And lights.

Interesting that he made it considering it’s illegal in both Oregon and Washington.

Strategic driving is the word. Good ingress and egress.

I think he went all the way up there without backing up.

Looked ahead at fuel stops. Food stops. Hotel accommodations. Two drivers in their 20’s and just drove on. To be young again….

Your problem comes in at the travel trailers frame. Some type of bracing would have to be welded to reinforce the frame rail. Otherwise, they could get pulled in

I wonder if they have something rated for the hitch that can hold 1 atv. Kinda like a motorized scooter mount that goes in the hitch.

It also mandatory that ALL boats entering either state from any direction must stop at a state inspection station that is open 24-7-365 and manned 24 hours a day. They will pressure washer your hull for free. That being said it is entirely possible to go through those checks without any concerns...when I say manned I mean manned by a young state employee who is probably making about $30K a year and, while always incredible friendly, probably not the most knowledgeable person about what is and isn't legal. I have seen this inspection stations in some really remote locations on state highways...they are about as serious about this program in the PNW as a state gets about anything. They do, from time to time, find things like expired tags and non-working lights during these inspections. Something as glaring as two trailers being towed would most likely cause some comment.

About half the states, to my knowledge, allow it. Georgia does not but you see it from time to time. I saw a dually Ram 3500 pulling a 5th wheel camper about 30 feet long and a NICE center console about 24 feet or so this past weekend. All told that setup was probably close to 75 feet long or longer...I wouldn't want to experience being passed by a tractor trailer with that much shite swinging around....I guess the procedure is to outrun all the tractor trailers LOL...

I would just do it. Chances are no cop will ever notice and on the off chance that they do and pull you over plead ignorance and promise to get that mess off his highway as soon as he lets you go....

I have not had a tag on our motorhome for over 9 years. Its registered but it doesn't have a tag on it. No one has ever said boo about it. I have NEVER had a tag on a boat trailer in any state I ever lived in or towed a boat. Never had any issues except once in Florida and all that came of it was they told me I needed a tag. Cops are pretty oblivious to what is going on around them...unless of course you are speeding or otherwise drawing attention to yourself...

We are going to weld a towing hitch to the travel trailer's frame and brace it with some angle gusset types of support. I've welded enough structural things at this point that I'm comfortable with the welding part of it. I wanted to cut the tongue and add an extension for a platform for a 4 wheeler, but I was overruled on that one. The camper is a small camper at maybe 12-14' long and the trailer is a 12' trailer behind it. We're going to weld it up and do a test run around the neighborhood and see how it goes. I plan on driving the speed limit and not a mph over on the trip.

On and the route is limited to Texas and Arkansas. Both states allow tandem trailers.

Got a friend that has a 28' canoer trailer and tows a 10' trailer with a golf cart behind it. I ask him is this safe, and he says you can't back up.

I think this is the way to go.
How big are your 4 wheelers?
If you are a good welder, and your 4 wheelers aren't huge, you could probably put together a rig to load both your 4 wheelers sideways on your pickup.

You've never pulled them through Chatham. I think they've stopped being as aggressive but up until a few years ago they made a killing checking tags during hunting season and during the spring/summer when people were pulling boats to Caney Lake.

Towing something like that 65-70 IS pushing the speed.
