I'd say .22 as well. There isn't a well at the back like there is on a pellet. Plus the color, pellet is a lead gray color.

Does your dog have nuts and get out? He may have tried to bump the buoy with a neighbors dog and your neighbor tried to smoke him.

It's about 6 months old...I felt it month ago and it worked it's way close to surface and I took it out..it was around rib area...put peroxid On it... bled very little....dog's fine

Got lucky.
Suspect it was a .22 short.
A .22 LR would have likely penetrated the rib.
