Why do we have to have one or the other? Lets have both...

I'd be all for it here in North AL. TN introduced some a while back as well. Our property is right near the TN line with uninterupted habitat from here up a good way into TN.

The problem with buffalo are fences... They just bust through them...

There is a guy about 2 miles from me that has 140 acres high fenced with elk and red stag. During Katrina he had elk and red stag get out.

That who you talking about?

We've already reintroduced Black Bears. How can an Elk be anymore more destructive than them + the wild hogs? There has been accidents on hwy's with black bears that I know of too.

I say bring em on, hell go ahead and reintroduce the wolf population to the south too.

The Kentucky elk herd was reestablished in an area that has a LOT of reclaimed strip mines (mountain top removal). The proponents of elk restocking there are proud of the fact that tourists visit the area and take pictures and videos of the elk and spend money. No problem with that, either. However, those reclaimed strip mines are essentially HUGE meadows of grassland for the elk to graze. Without substantial grasslands (meadows) here, what will the elk eat? They are grazers like cattle and not browsers like deer. At least, that's my understanding. Without a lot of open grazing area, will elk be able to flourish in, what seems to me, to be an unsustainable habitat? I wonder what kind of habitat the original Eastern elk required before they were wiped out by the settlers?

Sounds about like whooping cranes in SWLA

I've eaten elk. Mighty good, too! Wonder how it tastes compared to whooping crane?

I had one on game camera 3 (?) years ago in West Feliciana. One was hit by a truck in Jackson, La, another was on camera in Port Hudson, none had tags in their ear but and a guy killed one in Irwinville that had a tag.

I don't farm, so I am in favor of putting elk in Louisiana.
