I'm only gonna be hunting weekends, so my bird count will be significantly lower than all the weekday warriors

I hear ya... but you hunt in welsh, right? (I'm in thornwell) You got conservation season with no bag limits on snows to make up the slack...

So for those who are interested, which would you prefer?

3 or 4 man teams & a points system

or

Banded bird jackpot

I'm down for whatever.

Im good for either, I have a spot for woodies and the occasional gadwall by my house, and will try to rack up on greenheads and geese on a couple of trips to Arkansas.

How about weight per species? You can take a picture of the duck on the scale. First, second and third, and there will be a King Hunter.
Each species can be rated differently with a point system.

French duck, pintail=
1st-10
2nd-7
3rd-5
Greys and wigeon
1st-8
2nd-6
3rd-4
and so forth.

how would the points work with the ppd (points per duck) system? assigned values?

i'm gonna assume that the mallard is going to have the highest value and i'm also gonna say that i don't give a damn if i shoot a mallard

eta: could do big duck = value and teal/woodduck = value

I don't remember having this last year. I don't think it should be teams. We predetermine points for each species. I don't think it should be on quantity cause some hunt more than others. Go with heaviest and everyone gets a shot.

How about something like this:

Ducks:

Big Ducks= 2 points each
(mallards, pintail, weigon, canvasback, grayduck, black duck, redheads, mottled, ect.)

Small ducks= 1 point each
(teal, wood ducks, scaup)

Geese:

Speckled belly= 2 points each

Light geese= 1 point each
(snows, blues, eagleheads)

Canadian geese= 5 points each

***Any banded bird will increase points of that bird by 10x***

How does that sound?

I see what you're saying, but the weight deal seems kind of overboard, I'm not taking the time to weigh all of my birds

Specks, Canadas, Mallards, Pintails, & Canvasbacks = 5 points

Greys, Blacks/Mottles, Wigeon & Squealers = 4 points

Teal, Ring-necks, & Woodies = 3 points

Spoons, Scaup, Mergansers, Bufflehead, Goldeneyes, Redheads, Ruddys & Tufted = 2 points

Snows, Blues & Marsh Hens = 1

Eiders, Harlequins, Scoters and other divers not common to the MS flyway can have their own division

Might be easier to just do a banded bird / winner take all contest. i don't think anyone could possiblly have an advantage....

Sounds good, I also like the 10x band deal. My farm seems to be spoonbill city so I guess Ill try to climb to the top with 2 pointers.

You only need to put the heaviest on the scale. You can tell by holding one in each hand. It requires a little effort and will help keep it honest. After a while you can pretty much guess the weight, just like fishing.

This contest will turn the ordinary honest man into the king of liars. I'm way too competitive to get in on this. If I was trailing the leader and needed to kill 30 to take first place this temptation would overcome me and I might break the law.
