Thoughts and Experiences Bow Fishing

Just booked a charter trip for myself and some clients with Bowfishing Unlimited out of Port Sulphur.
I've never done bow fishing, and neither have my clients. Wanted to do something totally new and we will hopefully have a great time.
Anyone here used Bowfishing Unlimited before? If so, how was the experience. I've never shot a fish with a bow before so I'm kind of nervous I will suck at it. But I guess that's part of the fun?
There are some awesome pictures on their website of some massive fish and Drew Brees and his teammates went with this charter.
Thanks!

Try to purposely shoot under the fish. If you try to shoot directly at the fish you will miss everytime due to the water surface reflection.

I've been many times with Marsh Masters out of Leeville. I've had awesome trips where all boats limit out and shoot plenty of sheaphead as well. However, I have had some not so great trips. Its part of the sport.
I went with Bowfishing Unlimited about a month ago. They all have airboats (which is a must IMO if you are paying a charter), and are generally good guys. We had a good time with our guide until the weather kicked up and we had to head in about 3 hours early.
If you are a bowhunter try to forget everything you know about shooting a bow for a night and listen to what the guides tell you. They will coach you as the night goes on as well and let you know if you are shooting high or low.

It's going to piss you off. Lol
Pretty much all you need to know is AIM LOW. You can't hear it enough. Water depth plays a big part on how low you need to aim. Shooting shallower fish is always easier. Good luck and have fun! It can be addicting if you enjoy shooting.

8" low. Do that on every shot and you'll be close and know how to adjust.
And the more beer you drink, the better you'll feel about missing

It's easier than you think. Sucking that is...
but luckily there's more than one fish in the sea.
Remember aim low and you should enjoy it because everyone else will suck too.

There are only two things you need to know about bow fishing:
1) Aim low - about 6 inches under the fish for every foot he's below the surface.
2) A fish will ALWAYS appear right next to the boat while you are reeling in your arrow after missing one 20 ft. away.

For real, though, you will get the hang of it pretty quickly even if you have no bow experience. And choose your shots wisely, because there really will be plenty close to the boat. Don't pass up every difficult shot because you will get lucky here and there, but don't spend all night taking shots at everything you see when you know you ain't gonna hit.
If you're inexperienced, a shooting glove or whatever they call them is a good idea. If you tear up a finger early on, it's going to be a long night. The guides usually carry electrical tape to wrap fingers in this instance, but a glove goes a long way.

Slightly off topic, but my 12 year daughter has just gotten into shooting. She mentioned wanting to do bowfishing. What poundage range are you shooting when bowfishing? She is currently shooting at 30. Trying to get her to 40 by deer season.

bowfishing bows are in the 30-40lb range usually.

We just went two weekends ago with Bow Deadly Charters for a buddies bachelor trip. They're about 10 miles north of port sulphur. They had a really nice camp to stay at and they put us on some fish. We ended up shooting 5 big gator gar and 20 redfish on our boat with 5 of us. The captain and mate that we had on our boat were both real friendly guys.
They cleaned the redfish for us on the half shell, but we had to bring our own cooler to bring the gar home in and clean them ourselves.
Everybody else is right about aiming low, but after a few shots you'll get a feel for where you're hitting and be able to adjust.

My friends and I are doing the same next week in Grand Isle for my cousin's bachelor party.
One question based on recommendations here:
Should I aim high?
