Yeah, I know. NP.

I tow a box trailer a few times a year, so def. don't need a F250 for that. The EXT I had with the 6.2 would steadily run trans temps to 220-230, when towing in the summer. That's too damn hot.
That 250 don't care about no 4000lbs.

I also think that manufacturers tow ratings are way inflated.

Very much agree.

I drove enough old, crappy stuff in HS and college that I feel entitled.

EXT
?

I dont tow often but when I do its usually pretty heavy. Just from the house to the camp and vise versa. Some tractor repairs are easier with the comforts of home.

I think they are far too low, if anything. They have A LOT to lose if they are found to be exaggerating their trucks. Makes a lot more sense for them to underrate their trucks.

This

I've witnessed first hand, towing more than the recommended capacity.

I know that I have towed more than I should and my brakes were fine. That is always the weakest link in the system. I did not have full stopping power, but with good trailer brakes, I had no problems.

And now that I think about it, my max load probably wasnt over my rated weight. But still, my brakes were fine.

Stopping and keeping the transmission cool are the 2 biggest parts about hauling a load. If you can stop it and your transmission isn't overheating, you're good to go.

EXT= avalanche

What I mean by inflated is that yes, it will tow that amount.
I think though, if you regularly tow even 75% of the max rating, you need to move up to a larger truck.

Remember that like fuel economy, those ratings are set under ideal conditions; new truck, new tires, level roads, cool temps.
Of course, stopping is another adventure.
