The AR in my sig I built up with a dedicated 22LR upper. I love the setup. Everyone loves to shoot it. I always have people asking me about it on the range and get lots of compliments on it. But...

I have several options in the gun cabinet in 22LR so as much as I love it I think I'm going to move the 22LR setup to a black upper to use with my black lowers and rebuild my in the white set to something different. I want to keep the upper and lower as a matched set.

Only caliber I will immediately discount is 556. Don't need another one.

9mm would be pretty fun as that was my original intention to build this in 9mm. I have a couple of 9mm PCCs already (although both are limited in capacity, HiPernt and a Marlin Camp 9).

6.8 is the next. I do want something in that caliber. It wold give me an AR platform rifle I wouldn't mind using on Deer or Hog. But from a more practical perspective maybe trying to hunt with a silver receiver set and maybe a matching matte stainless steel barrel a bad idea? Not sure if a matte silver of a stainless barrel might spook prey? I've always hunted with black, wood, or camo guns so I don't know how much that matters to four legged creatures with no feathers or wings.

300BO. Any practical use if I don't plan on suppressing? Not sure why I would want one over 6.8.

762x39? An abomination in the AR platform.

Something else I missed?

Dedicated 9mm lowers are more reliable and better magazine options.

Color wont matter. Short barrel will. If you don't mind going back out to 16-18", good idea.

Nope. I love mine, but it wears a can.

Nope. Mags cost too much and are far too unreliable.

Forgot to add. Will be stretching it back out to a carbine unless I go with a pistol caliber.

Why not just keep it since you like it, and build another one from scratch?

If you do just want to change it what do you really want to do with it? 9mm and 6.8 are two totally different ends of the caliber spectrum.

Something like 9mm would just make it a plinker which is essentially what it is now. 6.8 would make it more practical. If I wanted to shoot 22lr I have plenty of options.

I think what I would really love is a 357 Sig AR15 carbine with DI gas system not blowback. I have some 357 Sig laying around. I always though 357sig in a carbine would totally kick arse.

I always thought 45APC had issues out of a standard AR15 lower?

For what it would cost you to do another silver one I would keep that one as it is. Can you ever have too many .22s? I think I have 10 in total of pistol and rifle (maybe more I can't remember). Plus I just love the look of that gun.

As to caliber, I have a 6.8 and .300 aac. I love them both but the .300 aac is an SBR and suppressed. I think it would be a great deer round with the proper bullet. My son shot a nice doe this year with the 6.8 and she dropped in her tracks at ~ 70yds. Need some more examples but it did a great job in it's 1st test (110gr tsx by SSA). Those bullets aren't available anymore but I'm going to work up a load.

I don't have any AR's but my favorite plinker and turtle exploders are 204 ruger and 17hmr.

Didn't it take a lot of engineering just to get a functional 17Hmr semi auto in the A17? Funny think it could just work in an AR platform. But 17HMR if my new favorite caliber. Love my bolt 17HMR.

Think I'll juggle my 556 setup to the white receiver set and move the 22 setup to a black receiver set. Then build myself a 6.8 upper when done move the 22 pistol setup to a new polymer lower.

But from what little I've read it sounds like you just take a pile of parts and slap it together A-Team style and come up with anything from a crossbow to a .50 Beowulf.

Is this one?

She looks pretty good in all black.

Going to move my 556 to the in the white receiver set. I have a new 13" rail coming so I was going to take it apart today anyways since I had to remove the old non-low profile gas block and delta ring assembly..
