2006 Xpress XP20CC w/ 115 Yamaha. Boat looks great in pics and guy says it runs great, but there is a catch. The bottom has a "small" dent that has a noticeable effect on the top speed of the boat. He said it will only run about 36mph due to this.

I have been looking for a good shallow water 18' or so center console and am getting impatient. The price seems right, given this defect, at $10k. What do you guys think? Would you buy it? Can things like this be easily fixed?

Have you seen the dent? How big and how deep is it? I'm guessing it's on the keel just ahead of the transom?

Just a picture, which you can't really see much of anything at all.

Lol at a dent affecting performance.

There might be a hole in the "dent" soaking the foam, causing it to become waterlogged.

The dent may mean the boat is warped and will not get on plane, we had this happen.

Would not buy if so

That's all I needed

Also, if anyone happens to know of or be able to find me a boat that fits my needs feel free to hook an OB brother up! Trying to keep it around $10k.

Yup. He actually said it is more of a swell, and not a dent. So this makes more sense.

Don't Xpress boats have a lifetime hull warranty? If the hull is warped, I would think this would be covered, so why hasn't the owner reached out to the manufacturer to get it fixed?

Definitely a red flag. . .

How long/where have you been looking? For a 10 year old 20' for 10k, you have better options going smaller/better shape IMO but I don't know what you're chasing. Either way, no need to blow it on a turd.

Long story long - My buddy has a 16ft Xpress side console. Had a slow leak in it for a few years, leak got very bad when we were on Toledo a while back and was filling up the rear compartment almost sinking the boat.

We got back and looked around, we found a 4" crack up towards the front on the passenger side. There was about 1ft diameter of hull that was warped and flexing around the crack.

He calls Xpress and they tell him to get fricked. He told them the only reason he bought that boat was the "lifetime warranty on the hull". They say there is no such thing, the lifetime warranty is only on the welds on the transom.

He got the crack welded up a few weeks ago for $120 and boat is dry as a bone, but the welder told him to be expecting it to happen again in the distant future with that warped patch of metal flexing.

Just a heads up

my uncle years ago had a pos aluminum boat that did really funny things in the water. It turned out to be a dent in the floor towards the back of the boat. He had a local welder beat it out and weld a patch on top of the dented area. It honestly solved the funny handing believe it or not.
