We go up to Mn/Canada border every other year and fish that area. Not the BWCA itself but adjoining parks/bodies of water. Tons of lodges up there that will rent you a cabin and a fishing boat. Really beautiful country and great fishing - especially smallmouth. The fishing in the BWCA is supposed to be even better but we are too lazy to paddle and the amount of beer we consume would sink a canoe

Very worth the trip. I recommend Williams and Hall Outfitters. Fishing is some of the best I have ever experienced, and the lakes and islands are beautiful. Biggest downside is that when the sun goes down, the mosquitoes are worse than south Louisiana. You need to go to Louisa Falls if you go. Hope this helps!

Thanks, guys. We area planning on late Sept to avoid the bugs and get some varied weather. Thanks for the outfitter tip...looks solid.

and bourbon in bladders weighs a lot less that beer.

Late Sept is supposed to be a really good time. Second only really to the spring spawn. Depending on water temps you have a chance at basically everything that swims being between 0 and 20ft.

This is a good outfitter out of Crane Lake on the west western side
