We had a golden eagle flying over us in Glacier last month. A ranger hiking the trails said it was a juvenile but it was still pretty big to me. He said they knock mountain goats off the cliffs.
I've seen videos of golden eagles hunting. Pretty amazing sight.
Juvenile bald eagles are larger than adults. Not sure if that's true for golden eagles, we don't have those on the coast. Females are larger than males, and juveniles are larger than adults.
Late Oct. to late Nov. there's a huge gathering of eagles on the Chilkat River near Haines, AK. A small ice free section with a late eulachon run brings about 3,000+ to a spot on the river. It's an amazing sight.
Haines is an amazing place.
