Termite prevention question

We purchased our house almost 2 years ago and the previous owners had a termite contract with Arrow b/c the house had a very small termite problem a few years ago. The termites have since been destroyed, but we continue to pay for them to come out annually to do whatever they do to prevent them from returning. It costs $145 annually and then around $400 every 4 years. Is there something I can do myself to prevent the termites from coming back and also avoid paying the professionals to come out?

I think it would be worth it to keep paying especially with previous damage. Although $145 is a little high. Mine is only $75 with terminix. shite will cost you a couple of pay checks if there is a problem and you dont have coverage.

I discovered termites after the storm. Been treating with same company for years. Was basically told to read contract.
They will kill any if an infestation occurs but you're fricked on them fixing any problems

Now no one could stop you from legal action but the Uniform agreement from the State of Louisiana is pretty straightforward.
I had another company come and do an inspection. They told me the termites were dead and no active infestations were found and the other company did a good job in that but good luck trying to go after them.
My house was hit real hard with damage and I'll have to do the work a little at the time.

Damn that sucks. I guess I'll keep paying and hopefully they'll get the suckers before they cause too much damage

Just keep it. Once they start eating your house, you're fricked. Not gonna get that wood back.

Termites are a huge pain in the arse. My grandpa had them a few years ago. He uses terminix as well. Really satisfied with them.

I just paid my renewal with terminix today for $225. I wonder how they come up with the cost if the other guy only pays $75.

I have heard that if you pour spent motor oil around the perimeter of your house it will keep them away for years, of course I would not do this as it is probably against the law for environmental concerns

Mine 3 yr renewal is around $225. My yearly inspection is $75

Do like I did, go to Pest Stop on Oneil, N of I12...spend the 300 bucks or so for Termidor solution...have the guy explain how to spray it.
I had a tunneling problem until I put this down, termites dead and gone and I have leftover chemicals for when/if they show back up.

Does your house have any wood in it? If yes, you need the protection. Termites are so good at eating wood, I will be looking at alternative materials when I build my home - the problem is - there is no perfect alternative, and if there was it would be prohibitively expensive. However, you can do some things when building to minimize their access and reduce the costs of preventing/fighting them.
And existing wood frame house on a slab, regardless of your siding (brick, stucco, hardiplank) - there are 2 kinds of owners - those who know they have a termite infestation and those that have one and don't know about it.
