How is the fishing?
How are the cabins?

I love Bistineau.

The fishing is great IMO. Tournaments have been producing 20+lb sacks. I think Palo Gaucho won a tournament out there a few weeks ago.

State Park is a nice area, especially for the kids. I am not sure on the state of the cabins. I checked on the website and they look decent but pretty dated.

ETA: Bream are biting also if you are interested.

It is also very easy to escape the sun and find some shade.

Does LA require LA fishing license if camping and fishing inside the state park?

Fishing is absolutely great. If you're going for bass & stripers, I would only fish at night. Bring shallow cranks (5 footers) and fish the dock lights.

I have a buddy that fishes Bistineau a lot and he says it's a great jig lake around the cypress trees.....

That is seriously shocking that you got that response from Bistineau State Park.

Sadly, the easiest thing for you to do is hit the Walmart on Pines Rd.

Exit at Pines Rd from I-20 after you cross the state line. Hang a right and there is a Walmart right there. Bring your sidearm with you and lock your truck down though.

Bisteneau is in better shape right now than anytime in the last 10 years. Fishing has been really good this year. If you stay at the park, there is some really good fishing right around the park, up and down Clark's Bayou.

May have to drag the 5er up there. Are there some good lake front pads?

There are some nice homes on the lake, but it has more than its fair share of lake trash.

As far as I know, there aren't any "nice" places to stay on the lake, except maybe the park cabins if they've been kept up. I rarely launch at the park anymore since the lake started having the salvania problems and subsequent drawdowns. You may be able to find something on VRBO.

Also, if you find yourself at Camp Joy after dark, you better be packing.

Welcome to Shreveport/Bossier..

Bistineau is a great lake, easy and fun to fish. Last time we were out there we were in an RV, but the whole park is very nice and clean.

Gorgeous lake. Spent a lot of time cutting a slalom up and down bossier slough.

I really wish Louisiana would get on the same page as Texas.
Texas doesn't require fishing licenses at any of their state parks.
