I have never been and I don't know much about them.
Are they worth the long run (compared to Biloxi marsh or cat island)?
What should I know before I plan a trip?

You will be better off hitting the Biloxi Marsh this time of year. Trout have already started migrating north. Biloxi Marsh is also full of reds.

Everybody should do it once. Now until the end of October is one of the better times to go out there. Be mindful of wind/storms as it can turn against you pretty quick and its pretty isolated. These trips require preparation but are a blast. I would not chance it on a boat that is less than 21 ft. and 100% in any conditions. Probably would be better with 24+.

The trek through the sound can get pretty rough. Did it in a 19ft boat on a calm day and we were beaten up by the time we got out there. Never went all the way out to the Chandaleur chain. We camped out on a small island about a mile further in. I think it was called Freemason. Fun trip, but we'll need a bigger boat if we're ever going to do that again.
