longs story short I will be making the move back to the oil patch in the coming weeks. will be working west texas but may get some east texas work in the near future and even some office time in houston. not committing to a move right away so I am looking at these as a possibility to stay in 1-2 nights a month and maybe longer between jobs. found a few used for 4-5k and even upwards to 10k with all kinds of extras.

have any of you ever owned or been around one before and will I regret not just buying a bigger 15-17' bumper pull?

The one pictured looks pretty sharp but for the money I would think the bumper pull would be more comfortable.

If you would only be staying in it 1-3 times a month it would take you over a year for hotel stays to exceed the price of that thing. Just a thought.

But you can also sell it in 2-3 years and make some of that back.

If I had to stay in something for 1-3 days at a time I would want something with a shower. If you have a campground you can pull into problem is solved, remote not so much.

I would like to use for fun as well in off time.

so it wouldn't just be for this purpose. sometimes you work 20 days get off 3 and go back out for 20. so instead of spending 2 of the 3 days driving back from west texas. I just stop at a state park.

That is a cool photo, but that looks like nothing I want a part of.

Yeah, you can get a few dollars for it. But there is nothing in this world that depreciates faster than a camper. I would think the market on a mini camper like that would be tough.

I would buy a motel room when needed. If not that, buy a true camper, something you can at least relax in.

The idea behind campers like the one pictured is that it can be pulled to remote locations via rough roads. I've seen some of these out in Big Bend national park on the high clearance (4X4) roads.

Which I would like to use it for as well as simple trips to Guadalupe state park. Plus if I got a regular road camper the rig roads will destroy it in time

Just imagine yourself spending every single minute of your day in outside in shitty West Texas. Oh, the beautiful scenery. Look at that dirt. Oohh, look at that dirt. Wow, there's some more dirt. OMG, even more dirt. The only time you'll go inside is to sleep.

Either pony up for a bigger one, or stay in a hotel

They can suck if you get stuck someplace where its raining for 4 or 5 days in a row. Remember the kitchen and bathroom are outside. W.Tex to Cali, would be prime country to stay in one. E.Tx to Florida, not so much.

I'm jealous. I stopped at Guadalupe for the day on the way from Big Bend to Carlsbad and would love to spend more time there. That would be the perfect setup for you. I've also seen a lot of guys use pickup campers like the ones pictured below.

Those things are handy as hell and can be very nice on the inside. I am gonna get one when I have some extra money.

Nobody sells or uses them down here though

I'd have to leave my teardrop hooked to the truck because if not my fat arse sits on the rear that tongue is going in the air.

I would like to have a puck up truck (slide in) style camper. Some are quite impressive and even have bathrooms. They are quite expensive.

The teardrop campers seem to be too small. That would be great for off reading adventures but, regular camping in populated campgrounds wouldn't work well.

Appreciate the input guys.

I have looked at slide ins but I'm gonna use this tacoma as my rig runner. Most likely will be put in an office type roll in Houston in time. I can already tell by our phone conversations they could use me in their real time ops center. Don't think the taco can haul a slide in
