So, I decided to do a custom rifle build. Savage long action in .300 win mag.

Ive been collecting the parts I need over the last few months.
I decided on a Manners MCS-GAT light weight stock.

Well, I didnt know,Manners quit making stocks for savage long actions. Damn!

I have everything I need but the stock. Bartlien Barrel, custom recoil lug, Accuracy Mag bottom metal, the works!

This will be my hunting rifle out West in the mountains, so trying to keep it under 9 or 10 lbs.

Team Gun Investigators....what stock do I get now?

Signed,
Depressed War Tiger

I have a HS Percision stick and I love it. The Bell and Carson stocks tend to be a little heavier than the HS stocks.

That's all I got.

McMillan makes good stuff. I do like Chassis systems so if you are willing to look into using a Chassis, I could give you other options.

McMillan is at least the starting point. If I built a custom gun, 90% chance it would be on a McMillan stock (and probably, like you, be a Savage action.)

You called them and asked? I understand if they didn't stock it, but to quit all together.

I don't know your budget, but you could see if they would sell you a gat that wasn't inletted yet and send it to a gunsmith to inlet.

Other options:
McMillan
Grayboe(owned by mcmillan, cheaper)
HS precision
B&C
Stockys

And then the million different chassis available

I bought my first (and only) aftermarket synthetic stock nearly 30 years ago from Brown Precision. I've got a number of synthetic XP-100 stocks, as well, 3 from HS Precision and 2 from McMillan. I've been satisfied w/ all of the aforementioned stocks. The only stock manufacturer who disappointed me was MPI. OTOH, at least they did issue me a full refund. Be sure and check the wait time as it may be quite long.

Emailed them about wait time.

They told me they stopped 1.5 years ago. It is too hard to get lined up with great precision without all metal parts on hand. Which is too much inventory and tracking. They are trying to streamline production and Savage, Browning and some other rifles dont fit their plans.

They prefer the true custom actions like Defiant, BAT, etc

Thanks for the feedback.
I will do some more homework

I do know a gunsmith. I will ask if he would work on an untouched stock.

Stockade Stocks might be my answer.

I forgot to mention that I am Left Handed. That complicates things.

Stockade specializes in savage actions (short or long) and makes most models in lefty!

MDT and XLR both have chassis that have gotten good reviews. I have shot any gun using the MDT. But I have with the XLR. It was very comfortable and felt very well built. I would see those first.

They are good stocks from all reports, but they do tend to be on the heavier side.

You really need to find a place that you can get your hands on them. The palm swells and what not are all a little different and the texture of the stocks is different. McMillans are awesome but I didn't like the palm swell for my hands. The BCs were better fit for me but the texture felt cheap (at least to me). The Manners was perfect for me but twice as expensive as the HS. The texture on the HS (while still not perfect in my opinion, I really liked the smoother / less gritty feel of the Manners and McMillans) was better than the BC and the palm felt great, so I went with the HS stock.

HaHa!! I'd disappoint you since my tastes really aren't that extravagant! Brown's prices have gone up considerably in 30 years; believe me, my stock didn't cost nearly as much back then. Strangely, their XP-100 stocks are still pretty reasonably priced.
