Ok everyone not that this is my baby but I know several of you have inquired about my attendance/camp.

I have finalized my DU trip and it will be the same weekend as the TD hunt Jan 2-4. I won't have commitments with that group on Friday until later in the afternoon/evening, and should have Sat afternoon free to BS.

My camp will be open I already have several that are interested in staying, however I won't be able to take you all down river those that stay will need to have their own ride down river Sat and Sunday. I can make myself available to haul people down river Friday and ferry people back on Sunday. I may also be free for a quick pm hunt Friday would have to be early pm. That's the deal I guess it's time to start formalizing who is doing what. I will do whatever I can to help just won't be able to take a group hunting that weekend with me.

I will call you later to talk specific details. Thanks for setting this up. I will be calling from a 205 area code.

ETA: I dont need you to bring us anywhere, but if you have unspoken beds available we can talk about that. I just need to be briefed on areas you would recommed to hunt.

Hammer,

Me and my buddy are going down 29th-31st. Did yall have birds this weekend? We were covered up in Pointe A la hache Saturday and nothing Sunday. Just looking for some reports of birds before we finalize our plans to make it down there. Don't want to camp out for 3 days if the birds aren't there.

How far is the run down river from your camp Hammer?

I am 4 miles from Cypress Cove then the run down river is standard about 8 miles to cubits gap and another 5-6 to Pass a loutre where others will be camping. It's about a 25 minute boat ride in a boat that will run 30is mph.

For those in smaller boats the river is rising it will be bit more hairy running it than it has been until now. The new rise trees and debris are about 2 days north of Venice and will be in the area for about a week then will just have occasional stuff after that.

To those that asked about birds, I went by myself Saturday had my wife and boys at the camp, hopped in the boat put decoys out at 1140 am on Saturday put 6 decoys out and was getting bombed by ducks so quit and hopped in the canes, 8 minutes later had 1 can, 1 pintail 1 weidgon and 3 grays. Back at the camp at 1. Sunday plenty of birds but they stayed rafted up and didn't fly as well and were spooky we killed our limit in about an hour but had to "work" for it.

Chad that run is why the majority is probably camping down there. Not trying to persuade you at all. It's just nice waking up and getting to your hunting area in 10 min as opposed to running that river in the dark. A buddy lost all his gear 12 years ago hitting a log at night running that river.

This time of year I make lazy man hunts. Wake up about 5 eat breakfast launch the boat figure out where everyone is hunting and hunt where they aren't. No running in the dark.

LSUson you have been the point man on this I think? I will help however I can should prolly make a new thread or just work the e-mails you have mine I think? I lost track I got a lot of e-mails after the first big post on this.

I can definitely help get gear down for campers on Friday just may have to cut willows at some point would be my only commitment, that an entertaining my DU guests.

I will be happy to arrange whatever you all tell me you want, my camp the hotel next door campgrounds (I ain't camping anymore though!!)

Yep I'll definitely get in touch with you. Pick your brain. Been a few years since I've hunted down there.

Cypress cove allows you to pay to use a slip. I just launch and pick up every day or leave at a buddies houseboat.

I'm going down the 26-29th but can't make the 2-4. We go on turnaround at work on the 2nd so won't be much hunting for me in January.
