This is a little 9mm my dad gave me a year or so ago.

It sat shelved up for a while until i brought it out last year. From the very first clip it would misfire every now and then. Some bullets would work then some would not work. however even the ones that didnt fire had a dent in the primer.
There happen to be a guy at the range who checked it out. He grabbed some of the misfired ammo and fired every round out of his glock, and it included a much more noticeable dent in the primer. Much stronger and/or proper firing pin i guess.

After this i brought it back to academy and they shipped it to Taurus. Then i got it back and hadn't had a chance to fire it until today. Go shoot, same thing.

Discussed with the guy at the range and he thinks it has to do with the ammo. (Cheap ammo from academy). However that doesn't explain how the glock was able to fire it, but not the Taurus. (Outside of the glock simply being a better pistol, however I've read decent things about the 111 millenium)

I have not tried more expensive ammo through it yet. Only had range rounds on me.

Have you heard of this situation before?

Do i bother trying to have it fixed again? Id like to have a little 9, but not something i cant trust.

Glock is the AK 47 of hand guns. They will eat absolutely anything that you put in them.

Taurus makes some good pistols for the price. And they make some that suck. Sound like you got a suck.

I haven't posted here in a few weeks but this shite crawls my skin like nothing other

Guys at work say the same shite as you and I immediately correct them with magazine or mag and they look at me with a somewhat puzzled look.

"It's called a mag, and not a fricking clip like the joisdfg say"

They get the point

I'm out.

It's a typical Taurus pistol. One step abovery a Charter, Jennings, or Hi-point. Most are junk, and I definitely wouldn't trust my life to one. The only decentcgun they make is the Beretta clone. Their revolvers are slightly better in quality.

I assume you already cleaned the shipping snot out of it.

talked to a couple guys with a pt24/7 that would only reliably handle the "better" ammunition, not cheap stuff

If you're going to keep it, try running some 124 or 147 grain ammo. Those should run better.

Why? If it cant ignite a primer on 115gr ammo, it wont on a 124 or 147 either.

Id try this:

quote:

If I'm not mistaken, the PT111 is a clone of the Kel-Tec P11 which makes it a striker-fired action. If that's the case, the firing pin has a retaining screw or allen fastener on top of the slide that holds the firing pin in place. Unlike a hammer-striker which uses mass to fire, the striker-fired mechanism utilizes speed and momentum. Any drag on that lightweight firing pin and you have light strikes! The firing pin retaining screw must be snugged up against the firing pin, then backed off at least 1/4 turn to free up the pin. Perhaps something was gunking up the firing pin channel, another possible problem. It's too bad your gun dealer couldn't have checked that out because the fix is really-really easy, if that is indeed the problem and I'll bet it is. Sure, you're getting proper indentation on your primers but if there is the least bit of a drag on that firing pin, it could be slowing down to the point of denting but not igniting. I carefully chamfered the firing pin channel on my P11 to keep it cleaner.

Most of the people I know call magazines "clips" and call clips, "speed loaders."

But listen "dog," new vocabulary is a sign that a language is not dead as a middle school piece of arse- which is not really fricking a "dead" person.

In fact, it's also not actually a "piece," either. I have gang banging cousin who carries a "piece."

Course, he's not really "banging" the way my sister nails her boyfriend.

In fact our dad "nails" cause he's a carpenter by trade. Sadly, mom "traded" his arse for a man half his age.

Long & short of is that our language is alive and well so don't "hate." Words can have multiple meanings and nouns can have multiple names. I remember people used to get upset if someone said, "ain't." They'd respond with, "Ain't ain't a word cause ain't ain't in the dictionary.

Yeah, I get that. Know its not great, but IMO it should shoot better than it is.

I'll check out the firing pin deal that someone posted.

Otherwise a new 9 mm will be the answer

Blame 90's rap for the clip thing. That and AK-47"assault rifle"

Were you shooting brass, or cheap Monarch steel case ammo?

Monarch

But still, the glock just crushed that ammo.

Also forgot to mention the guy at precision tested the firing pin by shooting a stick out of it. He said that its not a perfect test, but definitely appears to be striking hard enough,

I would get a variety of different brands of ammo and try to find one that it will fire every time, then stock up on that and stick with it. Stayaway from the Russian/Romainian/Yugo ammo as the military primers they use are typically harder than commercial US made ammo. Try Remington, Winchester, Federal etc.

If after doing this and are not successful, only recourse is to send it back to Taurus again.

Steel-cased ammo is notoriously unreliable and usually has very hard primers. But it still probably doesn't inspire confidence that your handgun doesn't go 'bang' every time you pull the trigger.

I don't absolutely hate Taurus, although I probably won't ever own one. But I can tell you from an objective point of view that they cut corners on most things to keep costs down. How else could they sell a gun that cheaply when everyone else is more expensive? "You get what you pay for" and "Buy once, cry once" both have a lot of meaning here.

If you want an affordable handgun, I really like the Ruger 9E. It's based on their SR9 handgun but takes less time for them to make. Mechanically the two are identical, which is the most important part. If you decide to get rid of the gun, here's my educated suggestion.

Ya know, the OP came here asking for help. He didn't come here asking to be arrested by the "Word Nazi's". When I read a post asking for help, if I can't help, I don't make a comment; if I can help, I comment. I don't understand why you have to jump the guy just because his vocabulary is not up to your standards; why can't you politely correct him? I guess that kind of stuff "crawls my skin like nothing other."

This^^^^. What bapple also said was correct. While your Taurus is not a Glock, w/ the right ammo it should still be a serviceable handgun. You don't have to apologize for owning a Taurus that was given to you. Glocks are fine guns and are known for being able to shoot ANYTHING. Nevertheless, a gun doesn't have to be a Glock in order for it to work; you'll just have to do a little extra work to find a load your Taurus likes.
PS, I own 3 Taurus handguns myself and don't regret purchasing any of them.
