BUMP for HAT
quote:

How thick of a wetsuit do you use in the summer? Do you own multiple wetsuits for different temps or always use the same suit? Any good company suggestions? (mako, JBL, etc.)

Which mask model do you use?

I have a very cheap 2/3mm Body Glove wetsuit from Academy and I also have a "skin" I bought from Tementos that I use when the water is hot.

Idk the brand of mask I have off hand. Me need to go all crazy with it. A good fitting mask with a big field of view is all you need

Thanks brotha. I'll never need more than 2/3mm? I run colder than most people (no fat).

2/3mm as in 3mm in the chest area and 2mm in the arms and legs (just to be clear) not 0.66667mm

this is the mask I have, very simple

Atomic frameless mask is the best on the market. Widest field of view, lightweight, low volume, comfortable, lifetime warranty. I have 3 of them. The mask is very important, a shitty one will make your dive uncomfortable.

3 mm wetsuit is fine for water 72F and above. I used a 3 mm all hear except December through March. A hooded vest is a good alternative to getting a thicker suit for cold water. Henderson and aqualung make some of the best suits. Bare is also pretty good

Looking at the Mako 1-Piece Green Aquatic Closed Cell Wetsuit. It comes in 1.5 and 3.5 mm. I'm extremely wiry (what you call scrawny ), 6' tall & 155 lb.'s, would I be better off with the 1.5 or 3.5 for rig diving and the occasional toledo bend dive? I get cold before 90% of people do, but don't want to get the 3.5mm if that's too hot for the majority of the year.

I dive in jeans and a sweatshirt. No need to tear up a good wetsuit. In cold water I through a 5mm on. But then again I dive warm.

Get a 3mm. It will be perfectly fine during the summe and great apeil-nov. If you find yourself diving during the winter then you can get something thicker or a farmer John. Keep it simple. I don't think you'll be diving in February much especially just starting out.

Ah ok. He came and picked up my extra gear yesterday, so feel free to try it out. Hope the dive goes well tomorrow. I had friends go out this past Saturday and slaughter some fish.

Seriously what dive shop did you use. My dad is one certification below an instructor. We have a family friend that owns a dive shop.
