Im not sure if this is the right forum to post in but ill go for it. My tailgate was stolen off my truck last night when it was parked in my driveway in Metairie. It is a black Silverado Intimidator SS. I realize this probably wont do anything to find it but its worth a shot. The tailgate has a small spoiler on the top and has the intimidator SS badge on the lower left side. If anyone just happens to see or come across one please let me know. Thanks.

That sucks, I'm sure that's not cheap to replace.

On a positive note, you can replace it with one that doesn't have a spoiler.

Yes, it is one of the best places to post about this. We all hate thieves and notice every truck on the road.

I'm sure it will be on a non SS and different color truck. won't be hard to spot. If I see it I'll just steal it back

The spoiler is factory installed on the intimidator SS models. its very small. I WAS actually pretty fond of it.

I feel your pain man. Ive had 2 stolen from me this year alone. Both time my tailgate was locked. Both times truck was parked at my house. I live in a good neighborhood in uptown dallas but theres some shitty hoods not to far away. After the second time i ended up buying this lock that goes around the hinge of the tailgate, aong with keeing the handle locked at all times. Last week i noticed that one of the cables was hanging out of the tailgate. frickers picked the handle lock, unclipped the cables, but couldnt get past the hinge lock. Those bastards tried to steal it a third time. This time i actually had something to pull finger prints off of. Cops came and dusted it. Pulled a few hand prints off but havent heard anything from them since. Most likely they only pulled my prints

Another guy in my complex got his stolen the same night as my first one last summer. He never relaced it. Ill see if i can find the hinge lock online and post a link. The body shop who sold me a replacement tailgate threw it in for free since it was my second one i bought from him in 8 months.

I know that stealing tailgates is pretty common but why? Who is buying all these tailgates, it doesnt seem like a heavily replaced part.

I know on the F250/F350 it was pretty common for a while for guys with the older models(03-07) to swap on the newer style tailgates(08+) because they wanted the "newer" look plus had that stupid step and camera built into the Ford logo. It wasn't uncommon to see a used tailgate for $1500 or so. I think some of the Platinum model tailgates were somewhere around $2500 to buy new. They were pretty easy to steal too, I try to remember to keep mine locked at all times.

The thugs steal tailgates now because of the backup cameras. It's becoming an issue everywhere.

They are easy to sell if you know the right people. Most thieves will specifically steal the ones with the cameras in the tailgates. My dad has had 3 stolen from him. He also had an excursion stolen and found completely stripped. Last month he was in Houston for a golf tourney, parked in the brightest spot closest to the hotel... broken into again and his 9mm was stolen. He has no luck at all in that town, especially with Fords

Why are people stealing so many tailgates?

In this case, I'd guess some punk kid wanted his for the SS logo.

If it isn't locked you can have a tailgate off in 10 seconds.

Because they go for $700-$1500 and are easy to remove
