he had an 08 Tacoma. I think he has enough experience to comment on this thread.

BTW- I have 22" wheels on my truck and not so much as a bad tie rod end yet. That's fricking amazing since these wheels weigh about 90# each.

I wasn't trying to come across like he didn't. I was trying to offer reasons why a person may prefer a mid sized truck to a full size.

My 08 had 18s and 33x12.50 Mickey Thompsons and I had to replace a front wheel bearing at 70k, but I wheeled it pretty hard. That's the only repair any of mine have needed.

Eta I wasn't knocking the Ecoboost. My dad, my brother, and my cousin all drive them and they are great trucks.

We've got a Hilux here, which from what I've read is the cheaper, foreign version of the Tacoma. They're good trucks, and take a beating. Driving and riding in the Hilux has me thinking about the Tacoma also.

Just curious, where are you driving a Hilux?

2009 DoubleCab Prerunner TRD Off Road..

I get over 20mpg when I'm running ethanol free gas.. It's a great truck but you can get similar mileage in full size these days. I really wanted to get the 6 speed but manual transmission is only available in 4x4 and I had no interest in that.

The locking rear differential is nice on the TRD package for lugging a boat up a ramp and the rear view camera is awesome..

You get better than 20 in an Ecoboost with 60/40 mixed driving including 10% using 4x4? If so I'm amazed, as all 4 people I know tell me 17-18. (I dont doubt that you do, but if so its the exception and not the norm) They get equal to my Tacoma on strictly highway (between 21-22)

Never said I had a 4x4 F-150 and I had a TRD Tacoma and it wasn't 4x4 and yes I do. I average 18-20 in the City and 21-23 on the HWY. I don't have the 4 door but the Supercab, this is the closest I could find to mine.

19.7 MPG

22.8 MPG

And if you don't believe the digital readout, I do keep my mpg and it is spot on with the digital readout.

I said I didn't doubt you, just that it was the exception rather than the rule. My dads has averaged 18.5 since he got his 6 months ago, (he bought it when he retired so he drives 80% in town) my cousin averages 18.3, and my brother has a turd that he's arguing with ford about that has averaged 16.5. (He's trying to make them buy it back, it has marginally more power than my Taco)

Nice looking trucks BTW

The TRD sport has a more car like suspension with color matched rear bumper, door handles, mirrors, and a hood scoop. The 4x4 and 4x2 versions of the sport aren't any different than a non TRD model as far as off road capabilities.

The TRD OR has a rear locker on both the 4x4 and 4x2 models, as well has a suspension more suited for off road (progressive front springs, and a more flexible rear leaf pack) I guess if you fished a lot it would help being able to lock the rear wheels on a 4x2 model when you were using a boat ramp.
