Correct. I think the V6's come with a 6spd manual.
Since you're planning on going with a 31" tire you definitely want a manual. My frontier only gets 16mpg hwy with 31-10.50 all terrains. Was significantly better with the stock tires (about 20mpg hwy)
ETA again: And my 1994 chevrolet with a hopped up 350 and 33" tires gets 16 hwy. frick having a small truck that can't get better MPGs then the tank I drive now.

You're right, the 4cyl has a 5 speed and the v6 has a 6 speed. The v6 auto is actually a 5 speed.

The TRD Tacos come stock with 31s (265/70/16) The mileage is roughly the same with 32s.

Mine was a 99 I believe and it came stock with 29" street tires. Glad to hear they're putting some more meat on those rigs.

Yeah, my 05 was an SR5 and had smaller street tires, but the TRDs Off Roads have 265/75/16 BFG Rugged Trails. The TRD Sports have 265/65/17 Dunlops I believe.
The tires on my '12 were big enough that I lifted it 2" without it looking odd, but i'll be upsizing to 32s eventually.

Awesome. That means they're gearing them for the bigger tires I'm sure. They're probably better now then they ever were for towing and off-road.

My next truck will probably be a Tacoma. I'm driving an 03 silverado with almost 200k now, but it is bigger than I need since my kids grew up.
I plan to hang on until the 2014 models come out because they will have improved engines with DI and better mpg. Co worker had a Tacoma and I love the way the little trucks handle and they will haul anything most people need to haul/tow.

Ive got a v4 2 door single cab 4x4 03 Tacoma for sale. Has 60k miles and is is great driving condition with bed lining
Never had any problems with it. Paint is obviously starting to change with age, but only noticeable if you are next to it

Loved my 2008 but got rid of it because my 2011 F-150 Ecoboost gets way better gas mileage. Why own a mid size when you can own a full size and get more power, room and better gas mileage?

I've always been a fan on the tacoma. After driving a 2002 single cab for 10 years, I thought I wanted another one until I actually looked at it. The four door's bed is miniscule. Might as well not even have it and the back seats were very crampped. Ended up with a tundra crewmax. Big difference

I have a '06 4 door V6..... Great truck with the exception of being small on the inside, other than that its a great truck, gets about 20 mpg around town.. 94,000 miles and no problems so far....

Had an 01. I got an auto v6 4x4 and my brother bought the same truck the same day with the standard. He eventually went through a couple cluthes and the auto never gave me any trouble. The autos have great trannys in them and would def buy another. Thinking about getting an old 3/4 next and a tacoma instead of a new 3/4 ton. My brother was smart enough to keep his and wish I had kept mine for a woods truck when I bought again.

Thats why I sold mine. Went to a 1/2 ton Chevy to pull a 7k lb camper. Really should have gotten an older 3/4 ton for that kept my yota

I was just reunited with my 96 tacoma after leaving it with my dad while i was out of the country.I plan on driving it till it dies then replacing it with another. No major issues, drives great, it just needs an update on the inside.

You get better than 20 in an Ecoboost with 60/40 mixed driving including 10% using 4x4? If so I'm amazed, as all 4 people I know tell me 17-18. (I dont doubt that you do, but if so its the exception and not the norm) They get equal to my Tacoma on strictly highway (between 21-22)
There are reasons I prefer my Tacoma over a full size. A full size 4 door won't fit in my garage. A Tacoma will destroy a full size off road. My Tacoma is small enough to drive on logging roads and powerlines at my lease without scratching the shite out of it. All I tow is a bass boat and occasionally a Polaris Ranger so it has more than enough power and its much easier to park in lots that don't have slanted parking places.
Eta an Ecoboost with everything my Taco has would cost 10k+ more than I paid.

Only problem I have with my Toyota is the body is shite compared to American vehicles. They have to use a thinner gauge sheet and not treat it the same. Our marine environment eats those things alive. Tacomas are nice trucks and seem to be gaining in popularity though.
