Lost my last grandmother this year. She loved this time of year - Halloween deer chili, and hunting season meant I was going to bring her some deer sausage etc. Miss all of the talks and time spent visiting with all of them. I am 48 and my advice to all who still have grandparents, don't take them for granted and spend as much time with them as you can.

Same here buddy! Lost both of my at an early age in their lives Pawpaw was only 66 and Mawmaw was 68. I learned everything I know about hunting and fishing from those 2. Right up to when cancer took them they both hunted and fished and maintained a hunting camp on Raccourci Island. Greasers times of my life was spent with them! Hard to believe it's been 20 years already.

My grandfather passed away a few months ago at the age of 90. He lived a good life and grew up as a true Louisianian in Sunshine, LA. He taught me to be tough, how to ride a bike, how to fix many things, and how to love and respect your family. Can't ask for more than that!

I to lost my Maw-Maw last year. Cajun French speaking Coonass from Raceland. Not a day goes by I don't think about her. Honestly,I live my life to the best of my ability knowing she's up there watching my every move.

She's with Paw Paw now though, the love of her life so I can't help but be happy for her now.

Looks like alot of folks here feel the same way - not surprised. Nan was 90 and lived a great life. She was real close to my son and after every hunt or fishing trip she would listen intently to every detail and loved hearing about them from him - hit him real hard when she passed. Great memories for sure!

I was very very close to my paw paw. My dad worked and still works out of state a lot. My parents didn't want to take me out of school and move me around so my grandparents raised me for the most part.

Everytime I get to go back home I crack a cold miller lite by his pool and sit on the picnic table like him and I used to do every evening after high school. I'll then sweep up around the pool and tell that old house goodbye until the next time. I wish I could have one more evening out there with him.

Here.
Never really knew my pawpaws. Have real good memories of my great grandmother, "Mamaw". Learned to catch catfish on a handline in her farm pond.
to all and the memories of those departed.

This time of year really makes me miss my dad and my Paw Paw.

When I am at the camp by myself, i usually get teary eyed in the evenings. I have gone back to hunting with thier guns. Makes me feel close to them.

Me too, man! My Dad was in sales and was always out of town. My Paw Paw introduced me to the great outdoors. He could not leave the house without me slipping into the truck. Even when my Dad was in town, I was hunting or fishing with Paw Paw. He has been gone for two years now and I miss him everyday.

Thx for that link. I have not heard of them before but will be adding them to the playlist. Reminds me of Drive by Truckers!

I am lucky enough to only have lost two grandparents in my lifetime. One was my great grandfather on dads side who died when i was very young. My moms dad passed away 6 years ago and i miss watching all the Braves games with him.
My pawpaw on dads side has taught me so much about love for the outdoors. Taught me how to shoot a gun, clean a squirrel, and safety. I hope to be half the man him and my dad have been to me one day
