To each their own. I usually only run +P ammo once a year at the range (around Christmas, I don't know why). I know its not exactly cost effective, but I might as well shoot what I use for self-defense.

To the OP: I've never had any problems with Monarch (Academy brand, made by PPU) for any caliber and its as cheap or on par with anything you will find at Walmart. I've also used Winchester WB, Federal Champion, and Remington UMC with no problems. All great options for the price. FWIW, I don't like ZQI, I find it to be dirtier than the other options.

Other than picking up a box each time I'm at Academy or Walmart, I usually buy online (better selection, prices, and "no tax" vs. shipping is usually a wash). Check out the ammo engine at WikiArms for the best deals.

ETA: Woo hoo, top of the page. Now, who knows where I can find Speer Gold Dots (9mm 124gr +P) in Baton Rouge?

I forget the Walmart branded ammo. Name begins with a "P" but it's made by Fiocchi and it's a damn good range ammo. Clean burning, brass cased and cheap.

The Monarch brass at Academy would be my next choice. It's a little. More dirty though.

I use Blazer Brass. I've read complaints that it's dirty but I haven't had any issues with it. I've run a few 1,000 rounds through my Beretta and I haven't had any failures. Of course most of my good luck is probably due to the open slide.

Perfecta. I buy all I can when I see it at less than $10/box.

Last time I was in town (about 2 months ago) Baton Rouge Police Supply over by Cortana had it in stock. Don't remember the price however.

Or it's PRVI Partizan, which is Monarch (PPU).

That's it! Best range ammo I've ever used. Wish they made 10mm!
