Stopped in a local store this weekend and they had three AR's in the $500-$600 range. If my bonus is what I am hoping for, I think I may have a little left to pick one up. What's my best option out of:

Ruger ar556
Bushmaster ORC
Oracle

Thanks

This and the S&W M&P15 Sport are two of the highest quality entry level ARs out there.

The Oracle (DPMS) and Bushy ORC (Remington) are decent guns but are lower quality than the Smith and Ruger.

And actually S&W just released the Sport-II which has the forward assist and dust cover. Not sure what the price difference will be but I'm sure it'll sell extremely well.

Yup. The genii will be awesome. I am glad companies are coming out with value ARs. S&W, Ruger, and PSA are really helping people get out and enjoy tactical shooting for less money.

You may have thought it was a typo because their SR556 is the gas piston version. AR556 is standard direct gas version.

i really don't understand how anyone could pay that amount of money for a cheaply built rifle with a flimsy stock and cheap arse plastic handguards when you can build one over at PSA and get Magpul furniture and Billet Aluminum handguards in any shape you want for the same price.

Have you built one of your own yet? I'm in the middle of my first build now. Just the research is fascinating, but I'm an information addict anyway.

No I haven't, want to at one point but with a couple of young kids it's not in the cards...
I went ahead and purchased anyways. Feel in today's climate more ARs the better!

I don't like the front sight on the Ruger.
S&W is the best entry level AR.

The fact that it's machined sets it apart from the competition. I don't know if I would use the QD-mount on the bottom since it would get super hot but I like that they do something to distinguish themselves from others. I think the 1:8 barrel twist is also a huge win.

All I know is I want a Spikes Tactical Crusader lower or two.

God Wills It.
