Strategies for fishing the Rigolets?
Posted by slackster on 4/9/13 at 4:24 pm00
Going out there tomorrow with a few buddies. The weather is calling for 18mph SE winds, but it seems the Rigolets should be relatively protected from a wind in that direction. Tide should be rising all day (.3 ft at 12:33 am to 1.1 ft at 3:34pm), but with the SE winds today and tomorrow, I doubt there will be much movement.
Any specific bait suggestions? Any other strategies?
TIA!!

High winds = Goheagan canal and the marshes in Lake Catherine.

a southeast wind will move more more water on a rising tide in the rigolets. it will hold up a falling tide if strong enough.

How do y'all think the weather will be for some good ole shrimp fishing on the rigolets or trestles this weekend?

Didn't catch jack shite at the trestles last weekend and there were lots of boats there not catching anything either. I think the secrets out.
To OP, better have live shrimp. If they don't bite on that they aint bitting.

Troll the bridges
i've tried that once and found it to be the most boring fishing i've ever done. its more of a beer drinking activity than fishing. but, to each their own.
This is the 3rd report i've heard like that from last weekend. We fished for about 3 or 4 hours on the trestles (plastics only) and boated around 30 nice fish. It baffles me how bad the fisherman are on the lake Pontch. bridges.

North or south end of trestles?

Well for starters, it's definitely not the easiest place to fish in sela. Everyone may not be as skilled as you.

started 3/4 lake (south end) and fished all the way to the south.

And this is a problem because...?

I never said it was simple, but this time of year it is ignorant to pull up to the bridge, anchor, then toss a dead skrimp to the bottom. If you're not using your trolling motor and plastics you are wasting your time. Wait a couple of months before throwing your money away on live bait or market skrimps.
One of my good buddies owns Dockside and posts in multiple places to drum up business for his live bait. I rarely use live bait.
