Yea, people are generally buying way too much kW for a house.
Of course if your wife demands to act like nothing has happened, you need it. Otherwise it's relatively simple to figure out how much kW you need to run the fridge, freezer, AC, and some lights.
30kW is ALOT. For a reference, I was on a grain handling barge a few days ago that has some air conditioned space, tons of lighting, fans, machinery, etc.
It was pulling 38-40kW
