We have been hunting hard but not seeing any bucks yet. Alot of does. Seems like we always do best the first 2 weeks of January. Do you St. Francisville hunters agree with this ? Anyone kill any nice bucks yet ?

I’ve hunted the river and the hills, north south, east, and west sides of the parish. The more you hunt from 12/21-1/7 the better off you are. There’s peaks and valleys during that time, but the last week of December first week of January has always been my best time

Yes, agree. First rut is generally the first week of Jan, second rut first week of Feb. The second rut is less pronounced. Should be seeing ground scrapes now.

Saw my first fresh scrapes last week. It’s right on time at our place.

I’m in port Hudson near the line. I’ve got random bucks. Lots of fresh scrapes. Nothing but nocturnal bucks. I see bucks and does eating around each other. No evidence on cam of chasing.

I still see bucks travelling together on cam.

The scrapes started showing up week after Thanksgiving

Saw the first buck chasin on the 22nd.

Jan 3rd is when I’ve killed my best bucks and it’s usually when they were tending a doe.

I shot a 3.5yo 8pt with a 2.5yo 6pt and a 1.5yo 5pt Thursday, and he stunk… bad

6 hours earlier the same 6pt was following a doe that had no interest

Scrapes and rubs started mid-early December

Seems to be the first week of January for the primary rut and end of January early February for the secondary rut. Shot a decent 10pt two weeks ago and FIL's friend shot a wide 10pt last week. Both coming to feeders. Neither one smelled bad yet. Noticed that the scraps just opened up this week. Should be a good time to be in the woods this week. Cameras been dead the last two days until last night. Had quite a few bucks moving around

The last 6 years we have killed mature 8pts or better, between now and Jan 10 . All trailing/ chasing does . Shitty part is the majority vote by family members who don’t hunt or cared about the property decided to sell it two months ago .

Be on the stand for the new moon on January 10-12. It’ll be on like neck bones!

I hunted Saturday & Sunday around Cat Island. Didn’t see much. I did see a buck chasing a doe around.

Update

The property I hunt is technically in East Feliciana Parish, and I am seeing rut activity on camera. I got a 10 point chasing the doe tonight.
