When I was 18 (in 1991) I had a coworker ask if I wanted to buy a revolver. Turns out he had a S&W model 66-2 snubnose .357 mag and only wanted $125 for it. I jumped on that deal.

About 5 years ago I was strolling thru Academy and saw they had Savage in .270, 7mm-08, or 30-06 for $179. I bought 1 and called a buddy in BR to tell him about the deal, and he went and bought 2. His brother subsequently killed an elk in Colorado with one of these $179 gems.

Last summer i got a tikka T3 .270 WSM with a zeiss conquest 3-9 X 50 scope for $700, everything was in awesome shape, though it was off target by about a foot from 100 yards when I first shot it, but got it sighted in, and its an awesome set up.

About 15 years ago. I scored a Loricin .380 semi-auto for like $100 at a pawn shop...... Oh, wait. probably not the "best" deal, huh? I gave it away. That may have been the best deal involving that pistol.

I just remembered: I paid about $125 for a like new Black synthetic 12 ga 870 back in the mid 90s.

I am still kicking myself in the arse for not buying several of those in the 90's. They were still sub $100 when i bought my arsenal AK in 98.

during the sandy hook ammo scare I managed to score an unfired 1897 marlin cowboy classic .44 jm stamped with an octagon barrel for 600 rounds of 5.56 and 100 bucks. at the time, ammo was going for a dollar a round and I had purchased it for .22 cents a round 3 years prior.

I actually have a Lorcin 25 auto I bought brand new at a pawn shop in 1992 for $50. What a junker. I leave it in my camper in the woods under a stack of paper plates in case I need some protection one night.

Barely used Bushmaster ACR for $1500. They go new for around $2200. Sold it for $1200 cash at Lamar Dixon after 2 years of extensive use. Got my money's worth.

EDIT: Also sold the MBUS set from it to TTT for $50.

I got screwed on that pistol, but I was just ignorant then and bought it on a whim, having owned only one other pistol in my life before that.
I hope the paper plates don't get any lint in the action to cause a jam.....

paying retail is probably my best deal on firearms. i usually buy them at "charity" banquet/auctions (NRA, Whitetails, etc.) for twice retail.

i did get my p226 for one $20 ticket but i figure i've spent so much on games and other drawings that i probably still paid over retail.

oh i did get my sr1911 on a good deal. i won a RIA 1911 in some whitetails unlimited drawing but they were out of them when i went to pick it up so i put the credit towards the ruger. come to think of it, it wasn't really a good deal either because i probably bought a bunch of tickets in the drawing.

i think i may be the king of bad deals on firearms.

Belgium Browning Sweet 16..65 bucks in in 1999, my neighbor died, and a couple of months later his son brought it over to me in a burlap bag, wanting to sell it. I called his Mom, and she said it belonged to him then.It is a bit rough, but shoots like a dream.
