Getting a boat soon (should seal the deal this week) and I know there's probably some equipment that I'll need that won't come with the boat. After reading the thread on the fella wrecking his new boat, I realize that a Q-beam is a must.

Which one of the hundreds do you guys recommend?

Seems I also remember a thread last week or so on must-have equipment for boats. Gonna search that up too and make a list. TIA.

Hell I bought one from Walmart that cost like $25 and plugs into my cigarette lighter on my boat. Works like a charm.

BTW, if I'm running at night, I always use it. Usually have a person on the side of me pointing it in front of the boat.

Absolutely. Looked at a couple on Bass Pro website. Prices range from 25-80 bucks.

We use two of these to get back after bowfishing.

LINK

You can find them at Walmart in the auto area.

As cheap as LED lights have become and their low power consumption, I can't see why every man with a boat hasn't installed one and thrown the Q-beams out. I have a really nice headlamp for looking left and right (spotting them frogs) but the 20" light bar on the front of the boat lights up the entire sabine in front of the boat.

That's a thought too. I can mount one on top of the T-top. Thanks.

Its still good to have a hand held bull eye especially when your looking for something, lost boater, jetties, pylons.

Don't ever lay a bull eye down with the light on and pointing down. A coworker of mine caught his aluminum boat fire with a bull eye.

Those light bars cause a hazzard by blinding everyone else on the water. They also obscure your red/green navigation lights. A q-beam allows you to focus the light and make sure it's not pointing directly in an oncoming boaters eyes.

Black & Decker

I've been using one of these for about 3 years. Liked it so muck I gave them out as gifts one year for Christmas. They use 4 AA batteries. I have never had much success with rechargeable lights. When one of them dies, they're dead. When the one in the link dies, just pop four new batteries in it. I use it mainly duck hunting. Plenty of light even for red river.

This is a really bad idea, low power floods facing down to light up the inside of the boat while you are fishing are great but should be turned off while running.

You would hate me. I have a 52" LED under the t-top and a truck nut on each trim tab.

Funny shite. I think I'm gonna go with the handheld Q-beam. Just need to decide on which one now. A few good ones posted here already. I like the idea of being able to plug it in to a 12v plug, which the boat has I believe so I think I'm leaning that way. Thanks for the advice guys.

eta: A lot of good reviews on the one that SBWM posted. I believe we have a winner.

my buddy bought a 12v one that plugs into a cigarette lighter before we went night fishing out of Dularge a few weeks back. He didn't think my rechargeable spotlight would be enough. Turns out it worked better than his large q beam and was easier to see the banks with the spectrum of light the LED put out.

What he bought

what i brought

plus mine is waterproof and floats with the light facing upwards should you drop it while running

that one is twice the wattage as mine. Should be everything you need and more.
