Planning a bachelor trip down to SWLA for the opening weekend of the 2nd split. We were talking about doing a "blast & cast" (duck hunt in the morning and fish in the afternoon). Anyone in the OB have any experience with any lodges down there?

I hunt with HR&G alot. We usually do 3 or 4 of these trips from teal into big duck. 1rst split is much better for this as the trout are generally still working under the birds but once Dec rolls around, it is much more hit or miss.

Check out Louisiana Outfitters LLC

Lots of choices for hunting areas and he offers blast and cast options.

Good point, MWP. Do they do well during teal season?

We did Grosse Savanne in Lake Charles last year for a cast and blast. Very nice place.

I looked into GS but the prices were a little too much to ask people to pay since most of us are recent graduates.

All three suggestions are the best three options. If GS is too pricey the other two may be more in your range. Highly suggest Capt Eric Rue or the folks at HRGC. Gonna be tough to find openings for opening of 2nd split tho, better start dialing

Sept is usually pretty strong for the fishing and same for the teal, although you are pretty much done with a teal hunt in 30 minutes. I like that sometimes if you get a weekend hunt because you can get back to college football or the Saints with time to spare. However, it's still warm in Sept and sometimes the fishing is a little more spotty. The teal are a slam dunk.

My personal preference is 1rst Split. Usually good ducks and fishing is lights out.

Whatever you decide, you need to do it quick before they book up.
