I realize most of you guys chase bass and other "salty" versions but has anyone fished the Antonito CO area, specifically Elk Creek and Conejos?

Thinking about a week in August.

I appreciate any replies.

We have a place not far from there in Angle Fire, NM. Have been wanting to try to do some fly fishing out there but don't really know where to go. Hopefully someone on here will have some information for the both of us.

Miller, go to Valle Vidal.San Juan River is as good as it gets, but it can be crowded. Cimarron River, which is right next to you, is a good spot.

Hey Boot

I have thought about how nice it would be to cruise around a quiet, high mountain lake somewhere up there, that is for sure.

Not this time but hopefully one day!

Hey Millerman

Have a buddy whose family has a place in Red River. We fished the Red about 30 miles out of town and I caught my biggest rainbow, 17".

It was pretty narrow and easy to fish. There is a fish hatchery nearby so that would give you a landmark.

Good times up there for sure.

In general: if you get into low pressure areas, mountain stream fish are idiots for a fly. In high traffic areas, it can be much more difficult.
