Son of a bitch! Have a question for you small engine guys!

I know I didn't spend a lot of money on this thing, hell my MIL got it for me. It is a push craftsman, but has the Kohler engine on it. I've used it about 7-8 Xs. Started running funny today. Checked the air filter which was pretty clean and there was gas on the filter. What the hell does that mean?! Has oil as well. I rinsed out the filter and put it out to dry. Worst part about this is i've had poison ivy since i cut it last and its rained every damn day so the grass is long! Cut the back yard fine, then part of the front and then it went retard on me.... appreciate any help

You may have fouled the plug. That's about the only guess I have for you.

Yeh, it should be under warranty. Think the MIL gave it to us on maybe July 20th or so. I've been on the same gas tank since i got it, no way the gas would go bad in the tank in about a month? The house i'm in isn't very big which is why I kept it even though it was a craftsman. Well that and the fact that it had a Kohler engine. I bought non-ethanol like everyone on here says to get for the small engines to.

I'd call Sears and see if they'll swap it out.

They're pretty good about that.

WRONG. Once clean, you suppose to add motor oil to the foam filter. Put some in and squeeze out all extra.

Kohler engine on it

That is your problem there. I have a POS too!

So, I put the filter in after drying out.... i did not add oil to it. It started back up and is working fine.
Isn't Kohler supposed to be good stuff?

Lower end isn't

Their top end stuff is really good.
Hondas are better IMO in this situation

If it can last me a year until i'm out of this house i'd be happy. Since we are on the subject.... i'm going buy a weedeater, this week. Looking at getting an echo, that should suffice?

Oil traps dust that other wise would pass thru the foam filter.

is this recommended by Kohler or is it just kind of something that can help. I didn't see anything about it in the manual.
Also, I'm looking at getting the Echo pas system.

If its like their regular 2 cycle stuff, should be good

Stihl is also good(obviously) if that's an option

Yeh... just not sure i'm willing to throw in the extra $100 for a stihl. I know its good stuff, but is it $100 more for the powerhead good.

It depends on the engine manufacturer. Some of them will foul plugs/gunk valves/clog jets/etc without much oil in the inlet. Some don't care and won't notice if they suck oil mist or not.

I can almost guarantee kohler recommends buying a new filter. Since they're all of a dollar or two, I'd probably do that. Some of those foam filters degrade pretty easily and little pieces of foam in your carb won't help it.

Ignore this tard. Buy a Stihl or an Echo. I own Stihl and Echo equipment and both are great for what they do. Echo has a 5 year warranty. Just bought a new Echo 250LN to replace an Echo PB-2100 that made 15 seasons with minimal maintenance.

I don't need thanks either...

Buy redmax. Dad swears by them. He has ran lawn services for the last 15 years.
