So have the 870s improved under new ownership?

My experience so far is yes, and the reviews I’ve seen are also good. I got a 20ga wingmaster. I can’t speak to the quality of the field master but rem arms seems to be trying their best to revive the company.

Because they’re good looking guns and a proven design.

I have 1990 870. It’s my favorite gun by far.

I don’t know but my 2006ish 870 express is a piece of junk. It misfeeds more than it doesn’t. I bought a Super Nova and that thing shoots like a dream.

I was rough on it in the 90s. I probably ran 2000 shells through it and cleaned it once a year. Now I treat it like it’s a thousand dollar gun. Love it.

I have a 1977 pump. Hell of a gun.

You must be too young to remember true Remingtons 870 quality. Nothing stopped an 870 and anyone could afford it. A pump proved you could hunt not just shoot and even those made of walnut and blued barrels could be hunted like a muddy wet retriever and cleaned up and like a trophy. All for less than $400. Sorry you were born too late.

No I'm not too young. The old ones are great. OP asking if the new ones are any good. If you want an 870 buy an old one. If not I would get something else like a nova.

I bought a 870 12ga in 2015-2016 maybe. Never had a shell hang up.

He’s referring to the 870s that are now being manufactured by RemArms which started in 2022. Their goal has been to bring back the old quality, and by all accounts so far, they have.

Nova is a good pump, but IMO the 870 looks better.

2 days after my 18th (95) birthday I bought an 870 Express, 1 of 2 guns I own that I would never part with. It's been a fantastic gun and never had an an issue with it.

A lot of the newer Remington rifles have a bad habit of flash rusting if you let them get wet. I had a small safe in an outdoor storage room and I had a 870 and a 700 in there and they both turned light orange during the off season. Great guns but they really need a coating.
