Long story, I just have my son with me by myself all the time now. Was going to get to go tomorrow. Had my stand picked out. Had a really nice buck patterned on camera. Been putting corn out at least once a week. Killed the wasps. Cut the shooting lanes. Was ready to go in the morning.

My dad goes and hunts it this morning and kills the deer. (I should mention that I had already put him on a buck this year which he killed the first time he hunted that stand.)

Probably shouldn't be ticked, but it has been a really bad year this year.

I was very clear in the title that it was a "crybaby rant".

I am aware that I am a bad son. Duh.

Still ticks me off.

Man that sucks. Nobody likes a potlicker but when its family it confuses the emotions and complicates the response.

communication brother, it all starts with communication.

Oh, I had specifically not told him where.

I don't know if he did it intentionally. (He and his brother's are very competitive over deer hunting.)

Just a let down.

I could understand if it was anyone else, but your dad, that's pretty harsh. If there is one person who you should be happy for killing a deer over yourself, it's probably your dad. Unless your kid is old enough to hunt.

But hey, he is a 78 year old potlicking, deer killing joker.

So at least he has that going for him.

I look forward to doing that to my son in the years to come.

I have only 2 (sometimes 4) days to rifle deer hunt in MO each year. My family has all 10 days. I handle a lot of the upkeep on the farm for deer hunting, as does my sister.

I've asked hundreds of times for my family not to kill anything smaller than a 4.5 year old 8 point. I've done what I can to emphasize that if we manage the deer population, the hunting will get better (there are some bad genetics).

They get in to their stand late in the afternoon, nearly driving right up to it, while I'm in my stand and can see them plain as day. They kill young 8 points, small does, and let friends do the same. Occasionally, a non-hunting family member goes out there with a borrowed rifle and kills a large buck.

After years of being eaten alive inside about it, I now just say frick it. There's nothing I can do about it, though I've tried.

I'm content to kill does and older spikes, and a decent buck every 5 years, and get yearly pics from them showing off their "trophies," joking with me because I didn't kill one (though I let several small does and small bucks walk) and pics from my friends who own land surrounding our farm showing off their 150" and up 10 and 12 points.

I love my family, and if part of it is allowing them to have their fun, then so be it. I'm thankful that we all enjoy the same sport, have an opportunity to do it, and have fun doing it.

Opposite with me, my dad will always put me in the best position to kill good deer when it's just the two of us.

He's killed enough in his life
