Skull Mount

I'm working on a skull mount for a deer I killed a couple weeks ago. I just took it out of the maggot pile and they got most of the meat off. I plan to boil it today to get the remaining remnants off.
What do y'all use for the bleaching process? Besides the kits from Cabelas. I've heard peroxide but I'd like this one to be very white.

I use v40 (12%) hydrogen peroxide mixed with white bleach powder. You can get both at Sally Beauty. It works great and won't yellow.

Tape everything up real good, base of horns, teeth ect. Spray paint skull with light coat of flat white paint.

Nice deer! Unfortunately, after they dry out and turn yellowish like that, they'll never come out nice and pearly white. You need to simmer it for about an hour and a half now and then power wash it clean. Don't wirry about getting the horns in the water, it wont hurt them. Then paint on 40% peroxide and let it sit overnight, then wash off with a water hose and let dry. Don't paint it!
(I do European Mounts. Have done over 2500 in the last 9 years) Good luck!

Unless you are selling them use spraypaint. Nobody will ever make the distinction.

Put some regular dawn dishwashing soap in when you boil it and then scrub it really good with it. This is the degreasing process and it will help keep it from turning yellow over time. To whiten get some peroxide 40 volume from sally's and cover it really good and put it in the sun for a day or two.

Bucktail1, what's a normal price to get someone to do this for me? For future info.

Just the skull cleaned and bleached would be $75. If you wanted it mounted on a plaque or driftwood the total would be $100.

definitely sally's 40 creme or liquid. i actually use both.
let yours simmer for a few tomorrow. not boil. spray w hose.
put in disposable tray & wrap horns (can't be too careful) pour liquid carefully everywhere. then apply paste. occasionally i will soak paper towels in bottom of pan in excess liquids and wrap entire skull.
leave overnight. reapply next day if necessary.
good luck and let us know how it turns out. sorry about the poor lighting
