Any skeeter bass boat owners here? I have a ZX 2014. I was told it has an automatic bilge pump and that I don't even have to have to turn the power button on and it will work. On the lake and I noticed I had water in the bilge area. I turn on the bilge rocket switch at the helm and it pumps the water out. So why didn't the automatic bilge pump work? I was thinking there here might be two bilge pumps and the auto one is at a different location. Does this sound right? I only see one bilge pump in the middle by the drain plug and maybe the other one is hiding some place else. Do skeeters come with two bilge pumps?

you need to locate your float switch...the pump won't come on if the water level is not to the level of the float switch.

If you have an auto bilge you could have a three position switch. Auto-off-Manual maybe your switch was in off position.

No skeeter bass boat but:

auto bilge pumps are hooked directly to battery. you probably have two. but you could possibly have one and the switches are both hooked up. the switch you turned on energized the pump. If you are not paying attention and the boat gets enough water to raise the auto switch, that too will energize the pump.

I have two on my bay boat. one is in the bottom and is on a toggle. a big one I have mounted higher in the bilge and the auto switch is higher. It only will come on if there is a situation. like a through hull broke, a wave over the bow and a hatch open, hole in hull etc.

This is what I'm thinking. I just need to get a flashlight and start hunting for the second one. At the helm my rocket switch for the bilge is labeled: port and star. Port turns on a bilge and star does nothing. The guy at the delearships said that power does not have to be on for the auto to work. He said I do nothing for it. If I tarp my boat wrong at home and rain fills it up the pump will still work. I paid extra money to have the auto installed so this is bugging me.

if you can't find second one or switch, put the plug in and put a hose in the bilge and after a few minutes the pump should kick on. then you will at least know that it will kick on without you having to turn it on.

I've got a Skeeter. The auto bilge only comes on when the water gets to a certain level. It takes a pretty good bit of water for mine to come on.

We have the same boat model

What is your top speed? I'm still breaking my motor in so I have not opened it up yet.

You have to get a lot of water in the bilge for the float to engage the pump. Only time I ever had mine turn on was during down pour.

If you want to test it put your plug in and place a water hose in your bilge and fill it up till the pump turns on.

Top end is around 67 in my boat. I might could squeeze out a little more if I really wanted to, but I never really get over 60 anyway.

Be sure you have two bilge pumps for redundancy even if you get yours to kick on. There is no worse feeling than having water entering your boat and the blige fail. I now have three on mine which is way over kill but I'm always worried about SHTF scenarios!

This is how my Skeeter worked as well.

I have a 200 Yahama Sho on my boat. The guy at the dealership told me it would go 70-74 with just me in the boat. That is to fast for me. Right now I'm cruising around at 50. This is my first bass boat and I'm to nervous right now to go faster. I bought the biggest boat that would fit in the garage. Swing away tongue was a must. It's the right size for me. Big enough for places like Toledo and small enough for places like Chicot Lake.

My motor is the HPDI series II. The SHO is supposed to be a little bit faster, so I wouldn't doubt you could get in the low 70's with the right set up. The 200 is a great size for the lakes around here, the only times I wish I had a bigger rig is on places like Toledo and Fork when it's windy.

IMO all electronics should be switched by the Perko.

If you overniting, sure leave it on, Batt A or whatever.

But to have it ALWAYS on is only gonna run your batteries down, and a possible short, by always being hot to the float switch.

No way I would have mine "always" on. Dats crazy.

Sitting at the house you want it always on ?

I agree about the Perko switch. Last year I was having problems with something drawing my cranking battery down. That ended up causing the stator to go out, which led to some additional problems. Never did figure out what was drawing the batteries down, but ended up installing a Perko which solved my problem.

I'm planning on entering the Skeeter boat owners bass tourney this June at Lake Fork. Do you enter any of these Skeeter tournaments?
