Looking to buy a side by side, utility vehicle. Just starting to research them and curious what brands, features and models does the OB like? Use will be primarily for hunting ducks, deer and use at future farm/ranch land. Looking for value, realiability and resale value. What do you good gentlemen think?

Stick with the Polaris ranger. Proven machines with tons of power to do all the things your wanting to do.

How do they compare in reliability to Honda, Kawasaki and Yamaha? Which model to get with which features?

As far as power they are dominating. Honda did just come out with their first vtwin 1000 that has a low range gear. I would defiantly go test ride one. But it's one of those first year out things.
Yamaha has good reliability but you will not be getting that vtwin power.
The best thing to do is just go ride them and see what fits your needs/likes the most.

I've had a 900 crew for two years now. Haven't taken it duck hunting but use it on the farm all the time and use it deer hunting it is great. No issues at all so far.

OP if you have the cash go Ranger. They've been at it for a long time and have the industry leading machine. If you were buying a 4 wheeler I'd say Honda but they're just to new to the sxs world to have me sold. If your a poor man like me check out the smaller Kawi. I have a 610 and love it. My needs were yard work, riding the kids, getting through 4 wheeler trailers at the deer lease, something that'll last, and ofcourse affordable. Of all brands id only stay away from Honda because I've known 3 ppl now, die hard Honda guys, that traded them in. I have no doubt that in time they will have an excellent unit but idk they're there yet

Upgraded to one this year. Badass machine that runs great. My Ranger riding buddies love it while their rigs are in the shop...

The sales guy I spoke with told me Yamaha had brake issues and idled very hard and didn't like the way Hoonda designed their engine. He thought the Polaris and Kawasaki were the best choices for reliability and performance. He said to get fuel injection and a bed that dumps. He said the kawasaki's are plain and ugly but can take a beating and run forever. Budget wise, I don't mind spending the money on a vehicle that has more bang for the buck, but I'd like to stay under $12-14k.

I agree with your salesman and with that budget you can get whatever you choose. Yamaha got away from the rhino and makes a Viking know. Can't speak for it but the rhino was a great machine. My Mule610, to my knowledge is the only carb sxs left. Everyone is diff but the fact that it is carborated was a good selling point for me. FI is awesome, but it gets pricey if you have issues. Carb on the other hand can be changed in my shop in about 15 min. Your budget I think can get you into a Mule pro so I'd def go check them out.

I also agree on the ugly part but they grow on you... Also remember, the more bells and whistles the more shite to break. Idw a SxS that I can't put through hell and have to worry about fricking up my fancy ride

Just bought a Ranger crew full size. Awesome machine with tons of room and shitload of accessories available. I narrowed between the Viking and Ranger. Polaris has come a long way with the Ranger. I know plenty of people that have them that have no issues. If your going to put a 3" lift and 31 inch tires doesn't matter which model you buy it's going to have problems eventually.
