Ship Island

I am planning to go to Ship Island this weekend. I know of the ferry, but I was wondering if it would be feasible to take my own boat there? I have an 18ft. Century, center console. Has anyone ever taken their own boat there? Is it worth it?

Been there many times by boat. We usually go in a big group and anchor in the shallow water off the north west side of the island. Water gets pretty rough out there most afternoons, you could be in for a ROUGH ride coming back in.

I have taken my father in laws 20ft wellcraft V-20 sport out there several times. Always rough as shite on the way back though.

Thanks, I may stick with the ferry this time and check it out. I haven't been there in years.
