Shimano Curado

Recently have been looking at getting a new Curado. They are on sale at Cabelas right now. Read a bunch of stories about the bearings going out too soon on the reels or the reels making a screeching sound after a few uses. Anyone have any experience with this type of problem on their reels? I've always been very impressed with Shimano quality and didn't expect this type of problem from them

New model will be hitting shelves in late August. Talked with Mark at Superior, who had the Shimano guys in store a couple a weeks ago, and they said it's a major upgrade focusing on a lot of issues and complaints they were getting from the current model.
They should just put the guts of the old G series into a new body, paint it green, and be done with it.

When Shimano was made in Japan they were the best and bulletproof. They switched to Malaysia a while back and have dropped off considerably. Shimano spinning reels are still the standard to which others are compared.

G's were the worst. E models were good reels though. 200E7 is still my work horse.

Mine only makes the noise when I have 2 brakes on, which I never use anymore as I only have one brake on. I have read that if you oil the inside the drum and the tips of the brakes it will make the sound go away. I never tried it though cause like I said I prefer one brake. Its buttery smooth like that.
Haven't had a bearing go out yet but have only had it for 2 years so far.

My thoughts exactly. I bought 2 of the new ones because they were supposed to have corrected the problem with the earlier models. They both suck. Bearings terrible. How many times do they have to keep fixing their mistakes.
Lots of others make reels nowadays.... I'm done

I politely disagree. The Penn spinning reels I've been using for a few years have held up way better and they're fished very often.
ETA: my Chronarch e7 is toast

Yeah we're going to have to on that one. It will be a cold day in hell when I buy penn spinner over shimano.

Don't know if they're gold std, but fished with Concept C reels a couple months ago with my old podnuh in Texas. These are very nice reels, and compared to some of his older Shimano gear, seem to perform better.

Wrong board, nobody's selling any used bicyclin' draws for men on here, or have they?
On second thought, maybe papa pogey or polar pop might be thinking about a new spring wardrobe.
