I was finally able to get my Pflueger reel back together with new bearings name it's like a whole new reel. My next reel to tackle is a Shimano Corolis CO-100E. I found the schematics for it online and began my takedown. I removed the side plate on the reel and ran into a problem. The reel has an easy mag brake system on it. This system has a drum with a simple knob to adjust the spools breaking. The drum has screws in it, however these screws are backwards. There isn't enough clearance between the reel frame and the screw head to unscrew them, from what I see. Has anyone ran into this problem before? If so, what solution did you use? Thanks.

I'm not too familiar with mag braking systems, but have torn down a good number of reels. Can you post the schematic or pics of the part of the reel that's giving you trouble?

Sure. Reel schematic is located at [link=(

Tried to hyperlink that, but not working.

I am having trouble removing part 817 from part 1187

Does that whole side plate not come off break assembly and all?

The side plate does come off but the brake assembly is a separate piece. There appears to be two screws holding it together with the heads reversed.

Yeah I see what you mean with the screws but I'm having trouble visualizing how it's coming apart without being able to see it for myself. A pic would be worth 1000 words.

So you removed the three side plate bolts on the right, the plastic panel on the left came off, but now the brake assembly is still on the reel next to the spool?

If this is all correct then the spool and brake assembly should slide out the housing. Can you wiggle it at all? The mag brakes could be sticking to the spool so it feels like it doesn't want to come out, but you should be able to gently pull them apart.

Yep. That's exactly what happened. Wish I could take a pick of it right now, but I am at work. Can try to when I get home. I think we are on the same page though about what is going on though, now.

I edited the post, there's nothing I can see holding that brake assembly and spool to the reel frame, they should slide out together. Don't force it, but see if you can pull them out when you get your hands on it.

Hmm. That may be the case. Similar situation on the other reel I took apart. Stuff seemed to be pretty stuck together, but if you wiggled it, it would come apart. Was scared to break it, but it eventually came apart. I will have to try your suggestion when I get home. Thanks for the advice.
