I go heavy-for-caliber when I can. 147gr 9mm, 180gr FPS .357 Mag, and 230gr HST .45.

The DE has 300gr XTP because that's all I can find off the shelf.

At $1.75 a shot...

Speer 124 Gold Dot

Can see them below in my EDC setup. Only thing missing in this is the extra mag ill carry also. Just waiting on the leatherman case for it to come in the mail.

I use the Speer Gold Dot 230gr short barrel defense ammo in my Kimber CDP Ultra Carry. Here's some photos of them I fired into a bucket of ballistic gel. Penetration was about 15 inches as best I could tell

I can put 10 shots in a 3 inch group at 20 yards. I don't think it really matters if I'm firing at paper or a bad guy. Whatever round you practice with is the round you should carry.

No offense but it doesn't matter what you can do at 20 yards in a self defense situation; only what you can do 3-5 yards or closer and in a life or death situation, no one will be perfect at 3-5 yards, ever, or else LE's with all of their training would never lose a close quarters gun battle but it happens. I do agree that you should at least use a quarter to a half of your box off good ammo to shoot, though. I don't use the short barrel boxes I have stock piled anymore as it's impossible to find and has been for a while. If and when it shows back up on store shelves I'll buy some new boxes and rotate stock.

Yea, I think I took those about 2008 or 2009 with a camera phone. Phone cameras are way better now but I still can't take pictures worth a crap.

Cheapest box ammo when I find good prices. A hole is a hole is a hole as far as I am concerned!

Pretty sure I'll be fine at 3-5 yards as well. Never said 20 yards was the only distance I practice at. No offense

Yeah, those 2 are exactly the same.

I don't even have to practice with my gun at all. Matter of fact I don't even need a gun I can kill the badguys with fireballs from my eyes and bolts of lightning from my arse.

I'm curious as to what the ballistics look like on this round as well as the projectile deformation.

That holster looks like it has never had a gun in it.
