Cutting wheat yesterday and ran a hen turkey off a nest. The draper head went right over the nest without breaking a single egg. The nest has 12 eggs in it.
This morning I went back to the field to put a flag by the nest so my planter guy wouldn't run over it. I was curious if the hen would still sit on the eggs with the wheat cut around her. When I walked up to the nest I was right on top of her before I saw her. I put a flag two foot from her and she never moved. She was almost flat on the ground.
Thought some of you might like this picture.

I'm a farmer too. Understand steering the planter around her. But to you plan to control a 100 foot wall of fire feeding off of the wheat straw?

I am not sure I understand the question. The whole field is covered in wheat straw. We no-till soybeans into the standing straw.

Yeah you almost have to step on em to bump em off their nests. That's a dedicated mamma taking care of the little ones.

Very cool pic!

Man, that is an awesome pic....I have seen this kind of thing as well and always hope a predator doesn't get them due to lack of cover....

This, in my area the poults are on the run and pretty big now.

Cool pic, I've walked up on some poults/nests and seen hens go absolutely nuts. I had a hen go into full strut and make 4-5 laps around me a few years ago. She was so close that I could have kicked her.

it certainly is late, fish...maybe they are all late due to the spring rains this year or something like that....

I ran across a lot of nesting sites that had already hatched out. This one probably had her first nest destroyed by predators. This is probably her second nest.

That it could be or the hen is just a whore which is a good thing in her case for all.
