So our lease had a second thinning done this year. Last time we were down they were about halfway through and had pulled off due to weather. What is it going to look like when they finish? Is it typical for them to clean up the leftovers or let them lay? Will they clean up the existing roads they have messed up? Will they clean any logging roads up or leave them rough? What about the logging decks, will they typically pile up the brush, burn it, or leave that up to us? Basically how much of a mess will they leave?

We are excited about what they have done and it will definitely give us some places to plant some food plots and allow better access, we are just unsure of how much work we have ahead of us.

They did a thinning process on our lease this year, but they cleaned up the big stuff that they could pulpwood out but still left most of the smaller stuff around their landing areas and lanes.

It should be cleaned up after they are thru. Cleaned up does have different definitions for landowners and timber companies! Slash depends on what landowner wants. We usually spread it out thru the woods, but some want it in a pile. Once done, the crew does a basic cleanup, fixes roads, clean out ditches and waterways, etc... We then have a man that follows up to determine what needs to be done to finish the site, usually just a bulldozer to dress roads, but we have brought in trackhoes and motor graders before.

Well that's not what I was looking for, but it's better than it was. it hasn't been leased in a couple years before us so the landings were grown up, now we can work with them.

Well lets just say that they clear cut the property adjacent to ours which is owned by the same land owner, and lost track of where the property line was so we made a call to the land owner and they were gone the next day, so that could have played a part in their clean up procedure but looking at the clear cut property, the clean up seems to be in line with what they left there as well.

At my place, the contract called for them to leave slash scattered throught the woods, push the log landings and clear roads back to the prior condition.

They didn't push the decks clean enough to plant, but a few passes with the bushhog and disk and the plots now look good.

Every operation is different though. On our lease in AR, I've seen them leave slash/tops semi-piled low and widespread over the whole landing where you couldn't get in easily with a tractor. One member had a stand nearby and didn't fool with it. It made a nice briar patch.

All depends what your landowner told them to do
