A few years ago I bought a Cabela's shoulder bag. It was advertised as "weather resistant" which is apparently Chinese for "not waterproof at all".

Is there any decent way to make it water resistant? I don't mean to make to totally waterproof where I could dunk it in a lake, but at least make it so an hour of rain wouldn't completely everything inside, other than the zippers leaking. Something to make water bead up and roll off the fabric?

Isn't there some sort of wax that people use for that?

Nik wax should do what you want. It won’t be water proof but I will make the water bead off of it. You will need to apply each year possibly.
Spray bottle you can get off of Amazon.

and do the instructions from the link in my above post.

I remember seeing waxed canvas dusters somewhere, and thought they looked sharp as hell. Almost like leather.

Not worth the hassle for a day bag. Dry bags are pretty cheap now. Grundens had their waterproof backpacks on sale recently. If you are looking for luggage size then it may be worth applying water repellant finish

I already have a carhardt day pack that has passed my waterproof test, this is more of a glorified fanny pack I just want to get some water resistance for.

Found it online... I got mine for like $25 and thought it was cheap, they are down to $12 now lol. Good little catch-alls if anybody is looking. Other than zero water resistance, hence this thread.

Nice to keep a couple boxes of shells, a roll of TP, and some snacks and other incidentals and have it on your waist for easy access while carrying a shotgun.

Scotchguard is fine for quick and easy. It works ok. I've found it fine for that.

Big fan of StarBrite cleaning products, I’ve never used their water-proofing spray but may be a good option. Link not working go to: https://www.starbrite.com

We used scotchguard silicone water repellent on Alice Rucks and gortex boots back in the day at Bragg and it works to some degree.

All of my civilian rucks and BoBs .... I tin those. Like doing tin pants. Heat up the solvent and wax, brush it on .... soak it in with a hair drier, let it dry and cure. Leak issues no more.
