Got the new rifle itch and looked at Tikka, Sako, Winchester bolts in 30.06. Also looked at Trijicon 2.5 x 15 56mm glass.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Longest shot prolly 300 yards at BIL place in Alabama

Love my Winchester super grade. Beautiful rifle and accurate. That’s the only one I can speak on amongst your choices.

I have 5 Sako rifles 300 Mag. , 7mm Mag and a 7 mm STW in the Sako TRGS . I have 2 in the A7 , 300 WSM and 308 . I also have a 270, 308 and 7 mm Mag in the Tikka. These are some of the best rifles that you will ever shoot. I would highly recommend either one.

All of them are fine rifles that will do the job. I however love my model 70. Smoothest bolt I have ever handled and groups nicely.

Yes, if you can find one. Nothing down here in my area. I've been looking for a Tikka .308 walnut blued barrel for months. Sako 85, forget it.

This is true. Call Simmons Sporting goods in Bastrop, they have a room in the back where they keep some different guns that they don’t advertise, they might have something that you are looking for.

Have a both Win and a tikka. Impressive accuracy from both, well made rifles. Reeaally want a Sako gray wolf or bavarian model cause they look so good.

You’re doing it all wrong… go to Gunbroker , register, then find the rifle of your dreams. There are currently 24 different listings for a Sako 85 walnut. Over 400 listings for Sako 85. Guns are readily available, just depends how much you wanna spend.

I'm an old school fart. I want to put my hands on any gun before I buy, especially one for that kind of money. Ammo, accessories etc.. online, no problem. Guns, I'll just have to be patient.

Your local dealer can order what you want, or go to a gunshow where you can put your hands on one.

Go to Bowie outfitters or Puglias in Metairie, they have a good selection. Sako IMO opinion is one of the best off the rack rifles! Actions are smooth as glass! Great barrels, walnut stocks are beautiful! Tikkas barrels are made in the same place as Sako, but the big difference is the other components on the Tikka are mostly plastic, Sakos are top notch! Enjoy!

I may never buy another rifle that I can’t put a suppressor on, but if I do, it will be a Sako Bavarian Carbine.

All are good options, but some are better than others. If you're really willing to spend the extra money, I'd go: Sako-->Tikka-->Winchester.

Sorry, but I just can't imagine one of the above guns w/ a 56mm objective scope on it. I had a 56mm scope for a while on my son-in-law's 204 Ruger until he saved up enough money to replace it. (I got the scope in a trade.) To me, a scope w/ a 56mm is hideous looking, unless it's special purpose like night hunting (where legal). If shots are max 300 yards, I think it'd look really nice w/ a much trimmer 3-9X40mm scope and would hunt just as well.

How many deer have you shot at 300 yards with a 9 power scope? They get to looking pretty small out there. Can it be done? Yes. Can most people do it? No.

TOTH is the guy that shoots prairie dogs at hundreds of yards.
With a pistol

I know what you’re saying but also get where he’s coming from as well.

My favorite hunting scope is a Leupold vx5 hd 3-15x44.

I have a Sako finnbar 30 .06 I bought it 1978. I've filled the freezer with it for 40 plus years. It never lets me down although it can't say the same for me. Good rifle, heavy built with a competition barrel. It will shoot a lot further than I can.

I forgot it has a cheap Tasco 3 x 9 scope on it that I have been meaning to upgrade for 40 years. I guess by now I should just leave be. I shot a 8 pointer at eighty yards thru the woods last fall and he dropped in his tracks. Seems it serves it's purpose. When I bought the rifle it was $1,000 and the scope $35.00. I was 19 and blew all my cash on the rifle, LOL. I figured I'd get a really scope one day but then life happened and I never did find that 500 bucks laying around.

Let me shift gears on ya'll, what about a scope for a CVA Scout .35 Whelen?
